Compliance Program Director

The Georgia Independent College Association is launching a new compliance program for its member institutions and is seeking a director for this collaborative program. TheComplianceProgram Director reports to the Director of Member Services andprovides leadership, education, and consultation to the Georgia Independent College Association (GICA) on ADA-, Title IX-, VAWA, and Clery-related issues to the subset of GICA’s member colleges and universities participating in the “GICA Compliance Collaborative”. The Compliance Program Director does not provide legal advice to member colleges and universities, nor is there an attorney-client or any other confidential relationship created between the Compliance Program Director and any member college, university or participant in the “GICA Compliance Collaborative”.

Responsibilities:

  • Oversee and provide education and training about ADA, Title IX, VAWA, and Clery to member institutions and their respective faculty and staff members
  • Monitor and stay abreast of ADA-, Title IX-, VAWA, and Clery-related legislation, regulation, rule-making, and related cases
  • Disseminate information about ADA-, Title IX-, VAWA, and Clery-related issues to member participants
  • Provide limited consultation services (not legal advice) related to ADA, Title IX, VAWA, and Clery to GICA Compliance Collaborative participants and, when appropriate, refer member institutions to attorneys for legal counsel
  • Direct the planning, development, implementation and administration of theGICA Compliance Collaborative
  • Write compliance-related grants to support projects and defray costs of initiative
  • Propose and implement compliance-related grant projects
  • Ensure deliverables are met for any compliance-related grants received
  • Consult with GICA staff members as requested on compliance-related topics as needed
  • Work with appropriate state and national associations and agencies on compliance-related projects
  • Local, state, and national travel required

Qualifications:

  • Master’s degree, JD, or other advanced degree
  • In-depth knowledge of the legal and regulatory environment for a private educational institution or comparable professional experience
  • Knowledge of ADA, Title IX, VAWA, and Clery policy requirements, procedures and issues in a university environment
  • Presentation and training experience, including development of training materials
  • Ability to assess and clarify campus situations
  • Demonstrated ability and interest in engaging in culturally-sensitive services to and collaboration with a diverse group of institutions of higher education, including but not limited to faith-based institutions, historically black colleges and universities, and single-gender schools
  • Outstanding verbal and written communication skills
  • Reputation for the highest integrity and ethical standards
  • Demonstrated ability to respond quicklyand appropriately in time-sensitive and crisis situations
  • Demonstrated ability to meet strict deadlines

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Five years of experience working in higher education administration
  • Member of the Georgia Bar
  • Experience investigating and resolving complaints alleging sexual harassment, sexual misconduct, sexual assault or sexual violence, and/or disability-related violations

Work Environment/Physical Demands: Normal office environment, typically sitting at desk, use of office equipment, walking or standing. Ability to lift approximately 40 pounds and carry for up to 20 feet required. Travel away from the office to an event and the need for occasional overnight travel is required. Position has potential for up to 30% travel time.Possession of a valid driver’s license and reliable motor vehicle required. Driving and operating a motor vehicle will be required for most travel (mileage reimbursed). Ability to access stored documents and office supplies weighing up to 20 pounds requiring use of step ladder up to three feet long required.
