  1. Build a competitor profile

Once you have identified your potential competitors, the next step is to gather more information about each one. In order to win customers (who have the option to choose), you also need to know what the competitor offers. These questions will help you develop a profile for each competitor. For each main competitor, identify the following:

Who are their customers?
Are they competing for the exact same customers as you? / Yes/No/Maybe
What are the key products/services they provide to their customers?
How is their product/service different from yours?
Where are they located?
How much do they charge?
Why do people buy from them?
Do they focus on a target market? If so, describe it.
Estimate their market share (percentage of the total market that they have) in terms of number of customers or sales.
Is their market share growing, shrinking or steady?
How do they attract and win customers?
What are their weaknesses and what can you do better than them?
What is their impact on your business? / High/Medium/Low
