Time: Registration at 9am, competition from 10am until 2pm

This competition is open to all dance studios and dance associations. Individual entries are also welcome. By entering this competition, all participants agree to abide by the following terms and conditions.

Entry Forms

  • Entries may be submitted via email to or hand delivered to DanceCraft Studio, 6 Pioneer Street, Bellville 7530.
  • Closing date for entries and payments is Friday the27th of April 2018
  • No late entries will be accepted
  • Please send proof of payment to or payment can be made at DanceCraft Studio, at 6 Pioneer Street, Bellville 7530.

Music

  • Music is to be clearly labeled with the piece’s name and emailed to by Friday the 27th of April.
  • No music will be allowed to be played from phones on the day.
  • Time limits for solos are 90 seconds; duets/trios are 2 minutes, and groups are 3 minutes. Music will be faded if music goes over the time limit.
  • Keep in mind that this is a family-friendly competition, therefore music must be of an appropriate nature, i.e. no profanity, etc. There will be a 10% deduction if not adhered to, and those pieces will forfeit the possibility of 1st place.

Venue

  • The venue is the Ballroom of Kelvin Grove club in Newlands
  • No food or drinks may be brought into the venue, as per strict venue policy
  • Upon entering for this competition, you agree that DanceCraft Studio and Kelvin Grove Club will not be held liable for injuries, damage, or loss of property
  • Backstage area must be kept clean at all times
  • Parents, family, and friends are not permitted to be backstage with the dancers, so please have makeup and hair ready upon arrival.

Stage

  • The stage will be a ballroom dance floor, with the judges and audience at the same height as the performers. The audience will be in a semi-circle around the performers.

  • 6-12
  • 13+ & Adults

Prices

Solo: R120 per piece
Duet: R200 per piece
Trio: R280 per piece
Group (4 – 9 dancers): R300 per piece
Group (10+): R600 per piece
Professional Demos: R200 (Max 2 per school) Professionals and teachers may not compete or perform in the other sections. Demos will not be marked and are purely for entertainment)

Awards

  • There will be 1st, 2nd and 3rd place winners for each category, style and age group combination, as well as various overall awards.

Judges

  • The Judges are Didi Moses, Roxy Levy, Mervyn Williams
  • The judge’s decisions are final
  • No contact is to be made with the judges by dancers or spectators

Judging Criteria

Marks will be allocated for the following:

  • Technique: Precision, execution, and line extensions, applicable to the relative dance style
  • Presentation: Poise, stage presence, costuming, and confidence
  • Musicality: Creativity and making use of the accents and themes of the music.
  • Dynamics: Pacing, flow, range of movement and use of space.
  • Overall Impression: Tastefulness and the quality of the attitudes and ethos expressed by the dance. The emotive value of the dance.

Spectators

  • Pre-Booked Tickets – R50
  • Tickets at the Door – R80
  • Entry is free for children aged 3 and under; max 1 child per adult.
