IMMIGRATION SPECIALIST

The Yonkers Alliance for Latino and Immigrant Services (YALIS) seeks a qualified individual to provide counsel on immigration issues and assistance with applications, including: renewal of green card/permanent resident status; employment authorization; reentry permit; status extension; removal of conditional status; invitation/sponsorship package; fiancé visa; V-K visa; life act, etc. YALIS is a community-based organization dedicated to improving services and opportunities for Yonkers’ Latinos and other immigrant residents of the City.

Compensation: Mid-Upper 20’s depending on experience; competitive fringe benefits.

Responsibilities:

1.  Counsel clients on immigration issues and regulations/procedures relevant to their status

2.  Assist clients in filing all needed immigration forms and compiling required documentation

3.  Assist clients in applying for taxpayer identification number

4.  Conduct Citizenship classes for groups of clients

5.  Conduct community education workshops regarding immigration issues

6.  Conduct intake of new clients and keep client files current and properly archived

7.  Prepare program correspondence for client cases and write letters advocating for clients

8.  Help compile program statistics and prepare regular reports

9.  Conduct program outreach with community residents and key organizations

10.  Maintain a good working relationship with outside agencies

11.  Keep up to-date on immigration laws and issues

12.  Staff various sites and work flexible schedule with some evenings and weekends

Qualifications:

1.  At least two years of College study – preferably with focus in areas of law, immigration issues and/or human services

2.  Extensive experience in immigration issues and procedures

3.  Good writing/communication skills, and good telephone manner

4.  Good computer/word processing skills; experience with Excel and/or Access very helpful

5.  Bilingual – proficiency in both Spanish and English

6.  Available to work at various locations and on weekends and evenings

DIRECTOR

The Yonkers Alliance for Latino and Immigrant Services (YALIS) seeks a qualified individual to serve as Director for the Agency. The Director is responsible for the overall supervision of the agency and the coordination of the projects and programs of YALIS. YALIS is a community-based organization dedicated to improving services and opportunities for Yonkers’ Latinos and other immigrant residents of the City.

Compensation: $40,000 depending on experience; competitive fringe benefits.

Responsibilities

1.  Orient, support and supervise agency staff

2.  Provide information and counseling for agency staff and clients on immigration issues and community resources for immigrants

3.  Oversee agency’s community education project with a focus on providing information that helps immigrant residents to strengthen their status, improve their living conditions, and increase positive connections between immigrants and long-term residents of Yonkers

4.  Coordinate agency’s community outreach and contacts with area residents, government offices and community agencies

5.  Serve as agency contact person for program funders

6.  Develop new programs from initial conception to design, fund-raising and implementation

7.  Maintain accurate records regarding program expenditures and services

8.  Report regularly about program development and activities and prepare periodic reports for the YALIS Board

9.  Make recommendations regarding budget, personnel & purchasing requirements to YALIS Board

10.  Keep up to-date on immigration laws and issues

11.  Staff various sites and work flexible schedule with some evenings and weekends

Qualifications

1.  Bachelors degree – preferably with focus in law, immigration issues and/or human services

2.  Extensive knowledge/experience with immigration issues

3.  Good writing/communication skills and experience in public speaking

4.  Good computer skills, incl. experience with Microsoft Office-Word, Excel, Access & Power Point

5.  Bilingual/Spanish and English – proficient in both speaking and writing

6.  Office management experience preferred

7.  Familiarity with Yonkers and area immigrant community preferred

8.  Available to work at various locations and on weekends and evenings
