Role Purpose

Assist in ensuring operations at the Household Waste Recycling Centre are carried out in a safe working environment and, in accordance with all Group policies, and in compliance with all statutory regulations and requirements of any contracts in place.

Key Responsibilities

·  To assist the Site Supervisor in controlling and co-coordinating the safe and efficient operation of the site in accordance with management instructions, health & safety and legislative requirements laid down in working plans, planning permissions, waste management license etc., including as a minimum ensuring personal compliance with the above.

·  To be aware of, and conversant with, the relevant details of the Waste Management License, Working Plan, risk assessments, COSHH assessments, emergency procedures and other relevant health, safety & environmental documents as directed by the Site Supervisor.

·  To protect the Company’s ability to trade by ensuring compliance with relevant legislation at all times and especially that concerning health and safety in the workplace and the ‘Duty of Care’.

·  To work in accordance with staff rosters and the provision of cover for planned/unplanned absence.

·  To operate mobile plant in a safe and efficient manner, in accordance with Group policies and procedures.

·  To ensure that plant and equipment is maintained as specified and the appropriate records are completed.

·  To be courteous to customers ‘meet and greet’ at all times, thereby providing exemplary customer service.

·  To assist customers wherever safe, practical and necessary.

·  Implement the Rotherham MBC declaration forms when appropriate.

·  To advise and assist customers regarding recycling and general waste, and ensure that waste is deposited in the correct containers.

·  To carry out any other duties required for the day-to-day safe operation of the site.

·  To provide a prompt & efficient service to haulage sub-contractors and to assist them wherever safe, practical and necessary.

·  To report to the Site Manager or Supervisor any breach of rules, act of dishonesty, malpractice or corruption by any member of the public, visitor to the site, or member of staff.

·  To implement the FCC near miss reporting procedures on site.

·  Ensure the site is kept tidy at all times and swept clean.

·  To undertake any other duties reasonably requested by FCC management, including working in other areas of the site and at other sites.

·  Ensure all high – Vis equipment is worn at all times.

A more detailed list of daily duties would be given during on the job training.

Litter Picking Duties

1)  To pick litter form all areas of the Recycling site and all surrounding areas as required.

2)  To collect full litter sacks and deposit into the correct skip during the working day.

3)  To report to the Site Manager any breach of rules, acts of dishonesty, malpractice or corruption by any member of the public, visitor to the site, or member of staff.

4)  To comply with all company policies and procedures in ensuring the safe and efficient operation of the site.

5)  Report any matters that could compromise site safety to the Site Management.

6)  Attend training sessions as deemed appropriate by their Line Manager.

Qualifications and Experience

·  Experience in the waste industry.

·  Ability to work on our initiative and as part of a team.

·  Ability to work safely and report H&S issues.

·  Ability to communicate well with staff, customers, contractors, visitors to site.

·  Well-mannered and polite.

·  Be prepared to be trained on site mobile machine (not essential).

·  Good timekeeping.

·  Good personal hygiene.

·  Smartly dressed (Uniform provided).

·  Ability to work outdoors in all kinds of weather.

·  Experienced in roles which include, manual handling.

·  Ability to demonstrate flexibility in job roles and staff Rota’s, covering holiday, sickness and absents.

·  Be available for overtime, as and when required.

·  Good IT skills including an understanding of Microsoft office products.

Personal Qualities

·  Ability to talk to members of the public and assist them with their requirements.

·  Ability to work outside in all kind of weather and remain helpful to members of the public.

·  Ability to work on your own or as part of a small dynamic team.

·  Flexible enough to cover colleagues at short notice in the event of sickness, or illness.

Other Information

Location – BDR contract, with possible occasional local travel

Reporting to the Area Supervisor.
