Role Purpose
Ensure Waste is placed as per company policy and procedure to ensure maximum compaction and minimum effects on safety and the environment, whilst ensuring customers get on and off site in a safe and timely manner.
Key Responsibilities
Ensure Waste (including asbestos containing material - ACM) is placed as per company procedures.
Ensure customers get on and off site in a safe and timely manner.
Ensure waste is compacted and covered as per the relevant site and company procedures.
Apply spray mist to wet loads of ACM upon deposit.
Maintain site access roads and signage to allow safe access and to reduce damage to customer vehicles.
Ensure wastes have been adequately covered with soils or similar material at the end of the working day.
Carry out plant maintenance checks. Note any repairs carried out in box provided. Verbally report defects as well as note on sheet so repairs can be carried out promptly.
Ensure machines are greased re-fuelled daily and record fuel and grease usage.
Ensure plant and machinery is thoroughly cleaned down as required.
Monitor fuel storage, request fuel delivery as and when required.
Carry out daily monitoring of various aspects of the site to ensure environmental compliance with permit conditions.
Monitor flow of leachate into storage tank. Report any problems immediately.
Monitor requirement for wheel wash to be open. Top up wheel-wash as necessary to ensure its efficiency.
Report all accidents/incidents and near misses as they happen.
Carry out daily and weekly site checks and log on inspection sheet on day of inspection.
Other duties will include (but are not limited to) maintenance and operation of surface water pumps, litter picking, carrying out stock-take of site consumables and PPE.
Qualifications and Experience (preferred)
Plant Operator experience a distinct advantage.
Experience in the waste industry (or similar) an advantage.
Personal Qualities
Punctual, with own transport.
Ability to plan ahead
Ability to work unsupervised on own initiative
Other Information
Must be willing to work a reasonable amount of overtime, including some weekend work as necessary and help out with other site tasks if necessary. You will be required to undergo certain training courses which will mean travel to other sites. You may also be required to provide cover at other landfill sites from time to time.
