Community sponsorship guidelines

Supporting Territorians

Power and Water has always been a supporter of “grass roots” organisations. Community groups, projects, events and programs that align with the Corporation’s corporate values (Safety and environment, Accountability, Commitment to service, Communication and Respect) are supported.

Power and Water sees sponsorship as an opportunity to build relationships with the community in which we operate. Sponsorships must be Territory-based and have wide-reaching benefits.

Power and Water’s community sponsorship direction targets a few key areas. These align with the Corporation’s objectives.

Our focus

Community and businesses - Getting connected

Power and Water aims to build effective associations that will help develop energetic and sustainable communities. We support communities in urban and remote areas with a focus on activities that build social and economic happiness.

Power and Water seeks to engage its customers and stakeholders face to face and welcomes sponsorship opportunities that offer staff the chance to get involved whether this be through volunteering or business alliances and our apprenticeship program.

The events and organisations we seek to partner with must offer tangible benefits to their community and provide a positive platform for the Corporation and its reputation.

Youth – Protecting and empowering

Power and Water seeks to collaborate with organisations that offer support for children, youth and their families and contribute to academic and life success with a focus on eliminating disparities.

We are particularly interested in best practice programs that have been seen to – or have strong potential to – improve the wellbeing of children and young people and empower them to build the confidence and skills they need to succeed in life and take control of their pathway choices.

Environment - We are all responsible

Power and Water is committed to environmental, operational and economic sustainability and support organisations that offer opportunities to explore the potential for water and energy efficiency and renewable energy that will enable the community to reduce its impact on the environment.

Education - Investing in our future

Power and Water seeks to collaborate with programs and organisations to encourage interest in the engineering and science fields. The Corporation is particularly keen to support their quest for greener and more sustainable energy and water supplies.

In addition, Power and Water will support organisations and sponsorships that share and/or enhance its corporate values of Safety, Accountability, Commitment to service, Communication and Respect.

Power and Water will not support:

  • Opportunities that fall outside the Northern Territory
  • Political parties, lobby groups or politically aligned groups
  • Commercial and government bodies
  • Events or activities that are divisive
  • Individuals or individual teams' travel or study support
  • Religious groups (although charity related activities will be considered)
  • Indirect appeals including charity dinners, conferences and seminars unless they have direct links to Power and Water and its business
  • Projects with multiple sponsors or partners
  • Providing free electricity or water
  • Capital works, operating costs or salaries
  • Events and activities that could be considered a health or safety risk.

Assessment principles

The decision to recommend the acceptance or rejection of a sponsorship request is the responsibility of the Power and Water Sponsorship Committee. When exercising this authority the Committee will address the following criteria:

  • the alignment of the proposed sponsorship with the objectives of the Corporation;
  • the ability to leverage the sponsorship through a range of benefits and broader exposure opportunities including but not limited to naming rights, signage, advertising, public relations activities, staff volunteering opportunities and merchandising;
  • the reputation of the organisation seeking sponsorship and the potential for the sponsorship to enhance the corporate identity and public perception of the Corporation;
  • the potential to build strategic alliances with other like-minded organisations and encourage community engagement;
  • the past performance of the sponsored organisation;
  • the cost and value for money of the sponsorship against the benefits and available funds;
  • the possible linkage with other sponsored activities to extend the reach of the proposed sponsorship.

How to apply

Our community sponsorship program is highly sought. To ensure your proposal receives full consideration, please fill out the appropriate online form addressing all the essential criteria.

We have six rounds of funding each year. Assessments are made in January, March, May, July, September and November. We require at least 10 weeks to give sponsorship proposals due consideration and will contact applicants for more information if required. We also provide sponsorship for branded merchandise for community events.

Applicants will receive written responses notifying them if their applications have been successful.

Monitoring, evaluation and reporting

Delivering on the terms and conditions agreed in the sponsorship agreement is a key element in evaluating whether a sponsorship was successful.

Power and Water will undertake regular reviews of all sponsorships to ensure that targets have been achieved and objectives met. The Corporation will also formally evaluate all sponsorships on completion to ensure that the terms negotiated in the sponsorship agreements were adhered to. Sponsorships that are ongoing may be re-assessed annually to ensure they are delivering all promised benefits and working towards the objectives they set initially.

The sponsored organisation will submit an evaluation at the conclusion of the sponsorship period to highlight how the sponsorship performed against the terms outlined in the sponsorship agreement. This evaluation should be completed in a timely fashion.
