Seminar: Belt and Road: Bridge of Entrepreneur to the World”

  1. Background:

Belt and Road is an initiative proposed by the President of the People's Republic of China Xi Jinping that focuses on connectivity and cooperation among countries primarily in Eurasia, which consists of two main components, the land-based "Silk Road Economic Belt" (SREB) and oceangoing "Maritime Silk Road" (MSR).

What are the challenges and opportunities of Malaysian in the initiative, especially the younger generation?

The rise of China and the initiative of the Belt and Road will not only bring huge opportunities for the business world, but also has a great impact on our younger generation, especially the career path for the university graduates. Malaysian Chinese have close ties with the culture, languages and networks of China, and play an important role in Malaysia-China bilateral ties.

3.1. Anbound Malaysia

Anbound is the largest independent think tank for public policy in China, focusing on macro-economic and policy areas. Anbound's research findings are widely recognized and create a deep interest within public media, academics and experts who are also providing consulting service to the government of China and major corporations. The headquarter of Anbound is located at Beijing, and a branch is located at Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia.

Malaysian Chinese Association (MCA) is a uni-racial political party in Malaysia that represents the Malaysian Chinese ethnicity; being one of the three major component parties of the ruling coalition Barisan Nasional in Malaysia

4.1Josephine Lee Mei Li

holds a Master’s degree in Business Administration and the Bachelor degree in Commerce. She is currently pursuing her Doctor of Philosophy (PhD) and her research paper is related to the corporate governance practices of SMEs in Malaysia. She is also a trainer certified by HRDF Malaysia.

She is now the Co-founder and Managing Director of Builders Group. The company is an O2O (Offline to Online) education platform that promotes smart creative builder education and lifelong education, building Malaysia towards a smart and learning society.

4.2Danny Ng Theng Wei

Founder of APR Electronic Services Sdn Bhd. APR Electronic Services currently one of the largest Refurbished and Reconditioned of laptops company in Malaysia. The company provides hardware to 8 out of 10 most popular online merchants in Malaysia which are Lazada, Groupon, Mudah, Lelong, 11th Street and etc. The company is the recipient of the Merit Award for Best Sales Challenge Toshiba Singapore 2008, Best Market Share Award for Distribution Toshiba Laptop 2009 and Malaysia best laptop repair vendor for AIG extended warranty.

4.3Sim Kian Kok

He obtained his law LL.B (Hons) Degree from University of Wolverhampton, United Kingdom and his Certificate in Legal Practice. He was called to the Malaysian Bar in 1998 at High Court of Kuala Lumpur.

He joined Messrs. H.C. Tan & Zahani, Kuala Lumpur as Legal Assistant. During the tenure, he handle both litigation and conveyancing matters. In the year of 2003, he joined Messrs. KH Chong, Sim & Co. as partner. He specialises in, among others, banking litigation, commercial litigation, debt collection, divorce in family law and conveyancing. Besides, he is well experienced assisting China investors in investing in Malaysia.
