OBJECTIVE OF COURSE/MODULE
The course will cover the knowledge on the wood technology and particularly furniture design and the furniture designing process - the stages to create a recognizable product offerings, distinguished from other products on the market, characterized by high quality, functionality, ergonomics and aesthetics. It will offer the development of designing competences by practicing the ability for creativity and solving design problems.
TEACHING METHODS
Lecture with elements of discussion - the transfer of content using multimedia presentations.
Classes - work of the student in a group and individually on wood technology and furniture design projects

TEACHING CONTENT
The latest global trends in furniture design and connected with those vocabulary will be presented including kitchen furniture, upholstery furniture, cabinet furniture, seniors furniture, children furniture etc. The techniques and the knowledge concerning creation of external form of furniture and the whole design process of furniture design will be covered focusing not only on aesthetical issues but also construction, functionality and ergonomics.
During laboratory classes students will develop their own concepts of furniture in form of for example drawings and/or 3D models. They will go through the complete furniture design process starting from identifying the target group of users and recognizing their needs, through generating ideas, development of concept for new product and ending with the prototypes and ideas for new pieces of furniture. The will learn and practice the language skills that can be helpful while working in wood technology/furniture manufacturing company or design studio.
