Community hubs – the practicalities of governance and management

Saturday 1 April 2017, 10am to 3.30pm

Margaretting Village Hall, Essex CM4 0EP

The venue is an active community hub on the edge of Chelmsford, with easy access to the A12 and ample parking. Chelmsford station is on the mainline out of London Liverpool Street.

Introduction

Creating a Community Hub is a priority in many Big Local areas. A Community Hub is a building run by the community, for the community, for social and recreational purposes as well as information and training opportunities, and often providing local services, such as a pre-school.

This day will provide a practical guide to setting up and managing a community hub, culminating in a checklist of ‘essential tasks and things to consider’.

The event will be facilitated by an experienced community buildings advisor, with technical expertise in all matters relating to community hubs.

We will provide information about governance, funding, marketing, insurance and support services for community hubs.

There will be lots of practical ideas to share as well as plenty of time for networking.

Who is this for?

It is for people in Big Local areas who:

  • are considering the ownership (or lease) of a community building
  • are seeking information about appropriate governance structures
  • want to find out more aboutday-to day management – hiring agreements, licensing, accounting, employment, risk assessment etc. and the roles of paid staff and volunteers.
