Community Awareness Service Project

Objective/Goals:

  • Define a goal to address a need within a community, based on personal interests
  • Identify prior learning and subject-specific knowledge relevant to the project
  • Demonstrate research skills
  • Develop a proposal for action to serve the need in the community
  • Plan and record the development process of the project
  • Demonstrate service as action as a result of the project
  • Evaluate the quality of the service as action against the proposal
  • Reflect on how completing the project has extended their knowledge and understanding of service learning

PARENT’S NOTE

Parent involvement is encouraged to the extent that they provide support and encouragement for the student. Students are required to take this paper home and give it to a parent or guardian to read. Parents are required to sign below to acknowledge that this project will be time consuming and require constant attention throughout the first and second semester. Students must get approval from their parent to work with group members. Individuals or Groups who miss a deadline are in jeopardy of not completing this assignment which could lead to a failing grade for this task.All grades will be published in the second semester grading period.

The procedure refers to the directions needed to complete your service. List all of the steps of your community serve project in the order in which you will do them. Be specific, but try not to make it complicated. The task should be repeatable. Procedures should be typed on a separate page and listed as step 1, 2, etc….

Schedule a date to make your community aware of your topic and the goal you are trying to achieve

 What supplies do you need?

Create your presentation. Make sure you have a hook, intrigue your audience with information, and close out your presentation properly.

Construct a method to collect data on whether or not your goal was achieved. (a survey or rating of the presentation)

Create a tri-fold project board to showcase the project. This is your chance to be creative. The display board must have three panels. It should be neat, colorful, ordered and type-written. The print should be large enough so that someone standing three feet away can read the content. Group member names and period should NOT be on the front of the panel. They can be written on the backside.

-Board should have all of these required sections:

  • Project name /Title
  • Description of project
  • Goal
  • Research & Bibliography
  • Visuals (photographs, graphs, models, etc.)
  • Reflection
