The Manter wildfire is burning south and west of this area. It is possible that private property and homes will be threatened before the fire is controlled. Fire fighters are attacking the fire at this time and reinforcements are being sent from other areas.

Firefighting priorities are:

§  The health and safety of the public and firefighters

§  Structure protection in the fire area communities

§  Protection of natural resources.

You should be prepared to take action immediately if the fire approaches your property. If evacuation is necessary, the Tulare County sheriff’s office will order it. We will attempt to give you as much advance warning as possible. However, you should remain alert to fire developments and be prepared to make your own decision about when you should leave.

To help keep you informed on the fire developments, an information telephone for residents has been set up at the (insert location and telephone number). You may telephone an information officer there who will tell you the latest developments given to the center from the fire incident command.

An information board has been set up at the Kennedy Meadows General Store. The maps on the board are updated daily and new information is posted as quickly as it is available and verified. You are encouraged to visit the information board and talk to information officers who may be in the area. Local radio stations?

In order to be prepared in case the fire burns into your neighborhood, the following steps are recommended to make evacuation easier, safer, and less stressful.

·  Know where your family members are.

·  Make certain everyone knows where you will meet if you must evacuate.

·  Know at least two different ways to get from your home to safety.

·  Make sure everyone in the family knows the evacuation routes.

·  Make arrangements with a friend or family far from the fire to serve as a telephone message center to allow you to stay in touch with your family. Provide that person’s telephone number to friends or relatives who might worry.

·  Think about the most important, irreplaceable things you will take and get them together so you can pack them easily.

·  Consider moving your pets and livestock to safety before the fire seriously threatens your area.

·  Stay informed about fire developments.

·  Remain calm so you can think clearly and act decisively.

·  Back car into the garage or park it in an open space, facing the direction of escape. Shut doors, roll-up windows and leave the key in the ignition.

Be aware of increased fire equipment traffic on area roads. Keep roadways clear, turn headlights on during the day, and DO NOT park along the roads to watch the fire.
