Standing Committee and Work Group Updates:

Behavioral Health Stakeholders’ Consortium Chuck Henry

Developmental Disabilities Committee Sierra Lifsey

As an update for the Developmental Disabilities Committee, we met yesterday and have a new vice chair, Elizabeth Lewis from Oak Park. She will take the place of Mary Smith. We will also have an Oak Park student sitting in with Elizabeth and learning, so we are excited about that. I am meeting with Dan from Empire transportation tomorrow afternoon to discuss the possible changes with the companies that SCAT Plus contracts with. I have also put in a call to SCAT to try to get some answers about these changes. As a committee, we drafted a list of questions to ask SCAT. After hearing from both parties, we will present the information to the committee and vote on a letter of support and decide what our involvement will be. Again, I apologize that I will not be in attendance as an emergency situation has arisen.

Homeless Committee Paul Sutton

Paul reported that the next meeting is March 12th they agreed to do alternate meetings with the Focus Group originally the Homeless group. The group met yesterday and came up with their three priorities. 1st will be supporting the one cents sales tax on restaurants. We are estimating it will generate 2 million dollars per year. The idea is, if we want long term planning; we have to have long term financing. We are trying to plan on ending homeless in ten years. 2nd support triage shelter for the homeless, focusing on mental health issues and 3rd is affordable housing people are not at home, because they cannot afford a home.

The Legislative Advocacy Committee met just before this meeting six attended. The dates for the Legislative Summit/Breakfast - Summit is Sept 10th and the Breakfast is October 8th at the Salvation Army on Tuttle Ave. The committee will not meet in March.
