Communication Support Worker: Total Communication (Interpreting Services) Ltd

Main purpose of job:

  • To provide bilingual communication support working for individuals or groups of d/Deaf learners enrolled in mainstream educational institutions.
  • To provide information, through BSL, written notes or clear speech, and provide access to information and opportunities within the institution.
  • To facilitate access to the curriculum and the wider college environment and meet the needs of the individual Deaf learner wherever possible.

Relationships:

Responsible to: Company Directors

In absence of Directors: Director of Administration

Main tasks of job:

  • Adhere to Total Communication (Interpreting Services) Ltd Codes of Conduct
  • To consider the needs of the Deaf learner within the context of their peer group, and to provide appropriate communication strategies, from a range of skills, helping to facilitate successful integration of the group.
  • To respond to all communication requirements that may arise in the learning environment, and to implement, review and adapt strategies as necessary.
  • To enable and empower Deaf learners to discuss their own learning requirements with teaching staff.
  • To enable Deaf learners to make independent choices and learn from their own experiences.
  • To maintain health and safety standards whilst working in all establishments.

The above is not an exhaustive list of duties and you will be expected to perform different tasks as necessitated by your changing role within the organisation and the overall business objectives of the organisation.
