Time Called to Order: 3:35PM TRHS Administration Conference Room
Topics Discussed:
1.Feb 3, 2011 minutes approved unanimously.
2.Mary Beth Sharp taking minutes today.
3.New District Wellness Policy-
Some schools have introduced the new policy, some have not. The plan is to have District and Building Wellness Committee representatives introduce and encourage staff to review. - at the beginning of the school year. Work with administration in each school to adapt to specific school policy/procedures.
4.School Updates:
•TRMS- Employee Weight Watcher program in progress. Otherwise no report- wellness
committee has not met due to staffing issue.
•Danville- No report.
•Sandown Central- Mary Beth Sharp reports: Wellness committee has met with aprox 5
members. Wellness Walk on Wednesdays has started for staff after school. Walking
indoors until nice weather- then will walk outside. Interested in Walk NH as a school.
Talking about school celebrations and the importance of limiting any baked goods- goal
is to have at least 2/3 fruit and veggies.
•Sandown North - Healthy Snack challenge still being held. Students with the highest
number of healthy snacks being recognized at Monday Morning Meeting.
•TRHS- Patti and Anna reports: The "Wonderful" Wellness Wednesday
Tips ongoing. In the fourth week of the AHA Walking group for staff. Walking at all
times before/after school/ lunchtime. Good participation. The Growing a Community
Garden in planning stages.
•Pollard - No report.
•Atkinson - Paula Amante reports: Atkinson Academy is continuing its Fruits and
Vegetables Event. Incentive and prize is an extra Physical Education class. Better
results with the kids eating better since they extended the length of the program from
4 weeks (last year) to 4 months. Let's get Moving program for 3rd-5th graders is going
well. Program held before school (7:50- 8:30) and is being facilitated by many staff
members. Warm up, games. After April vacation plan is to have program for k-2nd
graders. Staff are participating in monthly theme based Pot Luck Lunches with the
emphasis on healthy eating. OT Asst. Jane Slide organizing.
5.Health Fair Update
24 vendors, and 59 people signed up on MLP. Patti has sent out a couple of email to all staff throughout the district with message to sign up on MLP. Flyers have been sent to all s schools. Schools have posted in staff areas, staff mailboxes, etc. Committee member need to remind /encourage building staff over the next couple of weeks. Encourage administrative support also.
Have enough tables without using outside source per Patti. Patti to attempt to get donation for tablecloths. Map of table layout is in draft stage- Patti to work with George to figure best place
for food items.
Those members that can get to the high school by 130 ish will be set up. Others arriving later
will be clean up crew.
High School (Patti and Anna) will organize getting as welcome sign and directional signs.
Parkland Medical Center is coming but unsure what they will be doing. Usually do screenings, etc. Patti and Ellen trying to contact Community Outreach person.
Raffles- Aprox 5-6 raffle items from vendors. Discussed Door Prizes. Paula to donate a First Aid
Kit, Patti to donate a Mary Kay skincare kit, Waiting on Market Basket gift certificate. Each
wellness committee member will try to obtain a donation of a School T-shirt (adult if possible).
Paula to get bags for the tickets. Ellen to get tickets. Some members may be able to get
donations from local restaurants, stores. Stonyfield unable to be a vendor but is donating for a
raffle or door prize.
6.Ideas of Health Fair - 2011-2012
Possibly in Fall - instead of Spring. Many health fairs take place in the spring.
Time change - evening time or Saturday -
Open up to the public
Talk with vendors this year - to get a head start for next year- can they do the fall?
Have vendor list to use for next year also- can send out a letter after the fair this year asking if they would be available for Fall Health Fair-
Chiropracter - education on "Back Health"
