Committee Report 2011/12
Your Committee Members as re-electedare: Mervyn Rice & Judi Smowton, (rotating Chairman),Diane Ashley, (Club Secretary),Paul Carton, (Treasurer),Sheila Rice, (Membership Secretary), Richard Smowton, (Child Protection Officer)Nigel Turner (Bar and general member)
This has certainly been a historic year for the Club. The official opening of our Clubhouse took place in July with local dignitaries, two of our founding members, retired players, current players and friends and family in all attendance. Nigel Turner was the MC for the occasion and his speech is attached for those of you who could not attend. Our thanks go to Caroline Salmon (Vice Chairman of MVDC) and our local councillor Carolyn Corden (Chair of the Thomas Flack Fund Committee - and now a social member of the club).
Our bar licence was granted in time for the grand opening of the clubhouse. It has already become a great asset for our social events and will help with the funds for the club. Thank-you must go to the Bar Sub-committee headed up by Nigel Turner with Pam Lamb, Daniela Pearce and Kevin Court assisting who have managed to get this to happen.
At the beginning of the year we had another sub committee looking into the different surfaces for our courts. Nigel Catlow headed this and did hours of work, researching and reporting before we finally put the recommendations to the club members to vote on. Nigel was helped by Diane Ashley, Judi Smowton and Dan Carpenter and the sub committee went to different clubs to try out selective surfaces.
The members then voted to have Courts 1 to 4 re-laid and a new surface applied for Courts 5 & 6. This hasn’t gone quite to plan as our summer was too hot for the courts to be layed and repainted so unfortunately we have to wait until the spring for the re-painting. This then had a knock-on effect to Courts 5 & 6 and we lost our first slot for that. Once complete we are sure that this will all make 2012 a fantastic year with both the new courts and the new clubhouse.
The Club Finals were held on Sunday 11th September. Congratulations to all the winners and especially to Dan Carpenter who has now won the Men’s Single’s Title for the past 15 years. We would also like to thank all the Umpires and ask if there are any volunteers for September 2012 – the final will be held on Sunday 2nd September2012.

Pam Lamb has run our social calendar this year and has capitalised on our new clubhouse with running a very successfully programme and culminating with our excellent Christmas Dinner and Dance. John Farrar who took us all for another excellent walkand Liz Meikle provided [along with her helpers] a Pimms and buffet. We held two great Quiz nights with quizmasters Nigel Turner and Pete Eisenegger engaging the members’ memories!
With the help of local supplier Ray Lewis, we also launched our range of LTC logo bearing clothing for both adults and children. The gear looks good, prices are very reasonable and purchases contribute to club funds.
