Heriot-Watt University Student Union is an independent charity that is run by and for students. While we are a charity we also run commercial services that aim to make a profit. We use this profit to invest in other vital student support services such as advice & support and volunteering.
The Commercial Services department is responsible for the provision of high quality, cost effective catering within our Students’ Union - Geordies Bar and Liberty’s Cafe, organising and running events, and is also responsible for the Student Union shop in the Hugh Nesbit Building.
Purpose of role
The post holder is responsible for providing all the technical needs for any events held within the Student Union building. The role should provide management of technical resources ensuring equipment is serviceable, setting up of events for AV/sound/lighting, stage setting including tables/chairs/stage etc., ensuring stock/supply of consumables, provide updates on equipment requirements to Commercial Manager, organise set up and attend events were necessary to provide technical service as required.
Organisational position
Post holder reports to the Bar & Events Manager and has a close association with the VP Community but on a day to day basis is accountable to the Duty Managers.
Principal Duties
- Operate within Senior Events Crew operations procedures and make recommendations for change when appropriate
- Set up events, attend to support and help clear at the end, returning venue to standard setup ready for next event
- Control stock and equipment and carry out planned cleaning and maintenance
- Support volunteer Events Crew, including providing basic training and supervising their activity
- Carry out cleaning as requested by Bar and Events Manager
- Assist in promotions
- Attend meetings as required
