commentator’s script 25th Sunday in Ordinary Time

It is important for the Cantor/Commentator to have (and refer to) the PEW CARD so that s/he may recite the proper responses throughout the entire liturgy. Such responses should be declared clearly and with appropriate cadence so that the rest of the Faithful may join together in declarations/responses.

2 minutes prior to the Introductory Rites, the Commentator begins:

Welcome to The Church of St. Mary on this, the 25th Sunday in Ordinary Time and Catechetical Sunday. As you are here to worship God, you can do so by participating fully, by singing out, and praying aloud. Help us praise God well.

† We who labor in God’s vineyard are gathered here to give Him thanks and praise. Seeking the Lord while he may be found, we now humbly call to our generous and forgiving God with our prayers:

† Your ways are above our ways, O God of wisdom and might.

Listen to the prayers that we humbly voice for all in need, so that the last will be first, according to Your will.

We ask this through Christ our Lord.

Prayer of the Faithful (or Universal Prayer) 25th SUNDAY IN ORDINARY TIME

For our shepherds in the Church, Francis our Pope and Edward our Bishop, that for them Christ may be magnified in all things … We pray to the Lord.

For Pope Francis’ mission to Albania which will highlight the re-birth of Christianity and the efforts of Muslims, Catholics and Orthodox Christians working together to form a new society there, and may he travel in safety and his efforts are fruitful… We pray to the Lord.

For all who labor in the vineyards of peace, especially those in a position to lead: May God, whose thoughts are far above our thoughts, direct their minds to decisions that will dispel the violence and evil in this world, so that all people of all faiths will instead value life, justice, morality, religious freedom, forgiveness and peace… We pray to the Lord.

For all who need our prayers and our assistance due to poverty, hunger, hardship, mental illness, or weakness in their faith, that our community will respond with the grace, generosity, fairness and mercy of the Lord, so that the last will indeed be first… We pray to the Lord.

For the safety of all striving to end diseases and suffering throughout the world, especially doctors and medical researchers… We pray to the Lord.

For our catechists who hold and teach the Catholic faith, for the young people in their care, and for the love and support of their families, that all will experience an outpouring of the Holy Spirit’s gifts of wisdom, love and understanding… We pray to the Lord.

For the suffering, especially Tony Rossello and Thomas Ingoldsby, may they receive healing and comfort in their illness… We pray to the Lord.

Finally, for those who have died: the victims of the 9/11 terrorist attacks and for Sandra Maddux, and, especially for those for whom this mass is offered:
