commentator’s script 1ST sUNDAY OF lent

It is important for the Cantor/Commentator to have (and refer to) the PEW CARD so that s/he may recite the proper responses throughout the entire liturgy. Such responses should be declared clearly and with appropriate cadence so that the rest of the Faithful may join together in declarations/responses.

2 minutes prior to the Introductory Rites, the Commentator begins:

Welcometo ______on this 1ST Sunday of Lent. We ask you to kindly switch off any electronic devices as this time. As you are here to worship God, you can do so by participating fully, by singing out, and praying aloud. Help us praise God well.

Announcements to be made by the Commentator are inserted here:

When he calls on me, I will answer him;

I will deliver him and give him glory,

I will grant him length of days.

Let us call to mind our personal intentions and prepare to worship God in this liturgy.

Prayerof the Faithful (or Universal Prayer) 1st SUNDAY OF LENT

For Francis our Pope, Edward our Bishopand Howard our Bishop Emeritus, that they will be a beacon of hope for those who have lost their way…We pray to the Lord.

That worldleaders will be guided by their faith in a loving God to end hatred and terrorism, protecting thehuman rights of those suffering from persecution for their political or religious beliefs and ethnicity,while protecting this fragile planet…We pray to the Lord.

For those whose faith, values and family lifehave been weakened by the sort evils found in a Godless, immoral culture which, in Noah’s time, resulted in the Great Flood… We pray to the Lord.

That the poor, the hungry and the sick will have their needs met through the care and outreach of this community of faith and thework of the worldwide missions, especially the missions recognized in today’s collection… We pray to the Lord.

For those considering a vocation to the priesthood, the religious life or the diaconate, may the Holy Spirit guide them and strengthen them just as Jesus was made steadfast during his 40 days in the desert…We pray to the Lord.

That our catechumen, Hina, may come to realize the goodness of the God who loves and cares for her…We pray to the Lord.

For the suffering, may they soon experience the full recovery of their health and the comfort of God’s loveduring their time of trial…We pray to the Lord.
