Position Title:AmeriCorps College Preparation Coach

College Bound St. Louis is an award-winning college preparation and persistence program. Through an individualized, holistic, and multi-year commitment, College Bound’s mission is to empower promising high school and college students from economically disadvantaged backgrounds to achieve bachelor’s degrees and fulfilling careers. Since our founding in 2006, we have succeeded in helping 99.9% of our graduating high school seniors earn admission to a four-year college and helping them graduate at 5 times the rate of their peers! Position Summary

AmeriCorpsCollege PreparationCoaches will work directly with high school students in hybrid -mentor-advisor-teacher’s aidroles to support them in gaining access to college. While serving students inside the classroom, coaches will help implement a college preparation curriculum focused on guiding students through college acceptance, and preparing them for college success. Outside of the classroom, Coaches lead students in community service projects, cultural engagements, and social events. We support our students not just academically, but socially and emotionally as well. Core to College Bound’s approach with our students is building strong relationships with them; we believe no significant learning can occur without a significant relationship. Additionally, all AmeriCorps Members will receive professional development, training, and support from industry professionals.

Primary Responsibilities

Mentor and advise students toward high school graduation and college acceptance

Seek out and create relationship-building experiences with students

Design and leadafter school/weekend community service events and cultural field trips

Communicate with students regularly via phone, text, email, social media, and most importantly, in-person interactions

Successfully understand and help implement college preparation curriculum

Support grade level managers with College Knowledge classes by providing individualized student counseling and class facilitation when necessary

Conduct quarterly grade conferences with students

Lead College Knowledge presentations for 9th grade high school students

Attend open houses/parent conferences/parent events

Collect quarterly grade reports and annual transcripts for students

Conduct pre and post tests

Attend school wide activities such as recitals and sporting events

Receive professional training in classroom facilitation, curriculum management, counseling youth, and more

Skills and Qualifications

Bachelor’s degree

Experience working with youth

Excellent written and verbal communication skills

Strong interpersonal, organizational and computer skills

Passion for and commitment to service

Prefer familiarity with college admissions process

Prefer experience facilitating groups of various sizes

High energy, enthusiastic, and eager to learn with a strong belief that young people can succeed

Driver’s license and vehicle required to transport 2 or more students per week

Commitment to serve 40 hours a week
