Tension / Gauge:

8sts = 1in (2.5cm), using size 12 (2.75mm) and 4ply yarn.

9 rows = 1in (2.5cm).

BASIC BODY FORM / STAND:

MATERIALS:

Cardboard Disc (Thick): Approx. 3 ½ in (9cm) in diameter.

Cardboard Tube: 6 ½ in (17cms) in length, wide enough to fit doll’s hip.

Approx. 25gm of White Double Knitting Yarn.

Size 12 (2.75mm) Knitting Needles.

Clear Glue.

Polyester Filling.

Approx 12 in (30.5cm) x ½ in (1cm) White Ribbon.

IN PREPARATION:

If card disc is not available, it can be cut from any thick card.

Glue one end of tube to centre of disc, leave to dry completely.

( To fit a 11 ½ in (28cm) Fashion Doll)

KNITTED TUBE:

Using size 12 (2.75mm) Knitting Needles and White Double Knitting Yarn, cast on and K. 75sts.

Starting with a P. row, continue is st.st until work measures 7in (18cms).

Next Row: P.

Next Row: K2tog., across row to last st. K1 (38 sts).

Next Row: P.

Next Row: K1, (Yf, K2tog, across row to last st.) Yf, K1.

Next Row: P.

Cast off (Bind off).

TO ASSEMBLE:

Glue top of tube 1/8 in (0.5cm) from top edge.

Place knitted tube over card tube, leaving “hole” row just above edge of cardboard tube. Press together.

Proceed to stuff between knitted tube and cardboard tube with small amounts of stuffing, through bottom, ensuring that it is firm and free of lumps.

Continue to fill cavity until you reach the cardboard disc.

Gather lower edge of knitted tube to fit circumference of cardboard disc.

Stretch knitted tube over cardboard disc to just overlap edge.

Pull up gathers and glue into place, flattening gathers as you go.

Place doll firmly into centre of cardboard tube.

Thread ribbon through “holes” at top edge and tie securely at doll’s waist with a bow at the back.

PETTICOAT:

MATERIALS:

50gm of White 4ply Knitting Yarn.

Size 13 (2.50mm) Knitting Needles

Size 12 (2.75mm) Knitting Needles.

Press Fastener.

Sewing Thread to match.

Sewing Needle.

Using size 13 (2.50mm) Knitting Needles and White 4ply yarn, cast on and K 22 sts.

Rib 3 rows.

Change to size 12 (2.75mm) Knitting Needles.

Next Row: P.

Next Row: K., inc in every st across row (44 sts).

Rep last 2 rows until there are 176 sts on needle.

Starting with a P. row, continue in st st until work measures 6 un (15cm)

Next 5 Rows: K.

Next Row: P.

Next 5 Rows: K.

Cast off (Bind off).

FINISHING OFF:

Sew up back seam. Leaving 1½in (3.5cm) open at waist edge.

Sew press fastener to close over rib rows.

50 gm Navy 4ply Knitting Yarn.

For Coat:

50 gm Royal Blue 4ply Knitting Yarn.

Small amount Navy 4ply Knitting Yarn.

For Snood:

Small amount Black Double Knitting Yarn

12in (30cm) narrow Black Ribbon.

For Hat:

Small amount Black Double Knitting Yarn.

Scrap of ½ in (0.5cm) Black Ribbon.

A small Black Rose.

Size 13 (2.50mm) Knitting Needles.

Size 12 (2.75mm) Knitting Needles.

Press Fasteners.

Sewing Needle.

Sewing Thread to match.

SKIRT:

Using size 13 (2.50mm) Knitting Needles and Navy 4ply yarn, cast on and k 22 sts.

Work 3 rows rib.

Change to size 12 (2.76mm) Knitting Needles.

Next Row: P.

Next Row: K., inc in every st across row (44 sts).

Continue in st st until work measures 1in (2.5cm)

Next Row: P.

Next Row: K., inc in every st across row (88 sts).

Next Row: P.

Next Row: K., inc in every st across row (176 sts).

Continue in st st until work measures 7in (17.5cm).

Cast off (Bind off).

FINISHING OFF:

Sew up back seam. Leaving 1½in (3.5cm) open at waist edge.

Sew press fastener to close over rib rows.

COAT:

FRONTS AND BACKS:

Starting at the back, with size 12 (2.75mm) Knitting Needles and Royal Blue 4ply yarn, cast on and K 16 sts.

For Armhole:

Next Row: K. Dec 1 st at each end of row (14sts).

Starting with a P. row, st st 10 rows.

Next Row: P.4, cast off 6 sts, P. to end.

Place one set of 4 sts onto a spare needle.

Next Row: K. 4, cast on 4 sts.

Starting with a P. row, st st 10 rows.

For Armhole:

Next Row: P. inc once in last st.

Work 3 rows st st.

Cast off (Bind off).

Join yarn to 2nd set of 4 sts, and rep as for 1st side, reversing shaping.

SLEEVES: (Both Alike)

Using size 12 (2.75mm) Knitting Needles and Royal Blue 4ply yarn, with right side of work facing PU and K. 15 sts evenly around armhole edge.

Starting with a P. row, continue in st st until work measures ½in (1cm).

Break off Royal Blue and join in Navy.

St st 6 rows.

Break off Navy and rejoin Royal Blue.

St st 18 rows.

Next 3 Rows: K.

Cast off (Bind off).

FINISHING OFF:

Fold Navy rows in half and sew together on WS.

Sew up Body Side and Sleeve seams.

COAT SKIRT:

Using size 12 (2.75mm) Knitting Needles and Royal Blue 4ply yarn, with right side of work facing PU and K. 32 sts around lower edge of coat.

Next Row: K 3, Inc in every st across row until 3 sts remain K.3.

Next Row: P.

Next Row: K.9, (Inc in next st, K.9, across row) ( 43sts).

Next Row: P.

Next Row: Inc 1 st at centre of row (44sts).

Rep last 2 rows (176 sts).

Continue in st st until work measures 5½in (14cm).

COAT BORDER:

Using size 12 (2.75mm) Knitting Needles, and Navy 4ply yarn, cast on 6 sts.

K 3 rows.

Continue in st st until work measures enough to go up one side, around neck and down the other side.

K. 3 rows.

Cast off (Bind off).

FINISHING OFF:

Sew one edge of border to one side of coat, starting at lower edge, around neck and down other side.

Fold border to WS side of coat and sew in place.

Sew press fasteners down front of border, starting and front neck edge and ending at lower edge to close.

HAT:

Brim:

Using size 12 (2.75mm) Knitting Needles and Black Double Knitting yarn, cast on and K. 40 sts.

Starting with a P. row st st 7 rows.

Cast off (Bind off).

Crown:

Starting at cast off (bind off) edge of Brim PU and K. 25 sts evenly across row.

Work 4 rows in sts.

Cast off (Bind off).

Top:

Using size 12 (2.75mm) Knitting Needles and Black Double Knitting yarn, cast on and K. 4sts.

Next Row: P.

Next Row: K. Inc in 1st and last st (6sts)

Rep last 2 rows until there are 10 sts on needle.

St.st 4 rows.

Next Row: P. Dec in 1st and last st (8st).

Next Row: K.

Rep last 2 rows until there are 4 sts remaining on needle.

Next Row: K.

Cast off (Bind off) in P.

FINISHING OFF:

Sew up Back seam

Sew crown to top, easing into shape as you go.

Overstitch, twice around outer edge of Brim to strengthen.

Fold Ribbon into a double bow, and stitch with a few stitches to hold.

Sew or glue bow to front of hat on crown.

Sew or glue rose to centre of bow to cover stitches.

SNOOD: (Hair Bag)

Using size 12 (2.75mm) Knitting Needles and Black Double Knitting yarn, cast on and K. 9 sts.

Next 2 Rows; K.

Next Row: K1, (Yf, K2tog., across row).

Next Row: P.

Rep. these last 2 rows until work measures 3¾ in (9.5cm).

Next 2 Rows: K.

Cast off (Bind off).

FINISHING OFF:

Sew up side seams and turn to WS.

Thread a length of narrow ribbon through top of bag.

Place doll’s hair into bag so that it fits up to doll’s neck.

Pull up ribbon, tightly and tie into a bow.

Trim ends of ribbon to desired effect.
