- Interned with a non-profit clinic that provides medical care and genetic testing to the Amish and Mennonite plain people. I was in charge of my own research projects and discovered two novel DNA mutations within the population.

- Volunteered with a non-profit organization teaching Mathematics in Spanish to middle school Ecuadorian students living in the
Andes. Students who show promise during the summer are given a scholarship to attend high school.
