Work for Year 4.

If school is closed please chose some of the following things to do.

  1. English

Put on your hat, coat, scarf, gloves and wellies and go out into the snow.

What does it feel like? Think of as many adjectives as you can.

Lie on your back, move your arms up and down and your legs wide and back together. Stand up. What have you made?

Build a snowman. When you are inside again write instructions, ‘How to build a snowman’. Make sure they are clear and you think carefully about which order you do things in. Think about the language you use when you are telling someone how to do something.

Remember all the adjective you thought of to describe the snow. Write a poem with the title, ‘Snow’, using as many adjectives as you can.

Think how to present your poem. Will it be inside the outline of a snowman? Will it look like a snowflake? Be creative.

2. Read a book that you think looks interesting.

Write about the book and what you most liked about it.

Draw a picture of how you imagine some of the characters look.

Design a front cover for the book.

Write an in depth character description about one of the characters. Include adjectives, adverbs and similes. Try to make your writing as descriptive as possible so that another person could draw an accurate picture of the character.

3. Practise your neatest handwriting. Write out a poem or part

of a story and make the writing as beautiful as you can.

4. Maths

Practise your times tables and try to increase your speed and accuracy.. Remember

that you must know them “Inside out, upside down and standing on your head.”

Use some of these websites to help you.

5. (If you are allowed to and have adult supervision) Follow a recipe to make a cake. Before you weigh each ingredient, estimate then check your accuracy using weighing scales or a measuring jug.

6. Science

Find out some information about ECHO LOCATION which is used by some animals to sense information about their surroundings. Choose 2 animals which use echolocation and write how they both do this.

●Why is echolocation useful?

●How does it help the animal?

Draw a large labelled picture of both animals to show them using echolocation in their own environments.
