DESCRIPTION:
The position reports to the Construction Manager
TheConstruction Assistantwill provide administrative support in achieving goals and objectives set forth by the Construction Manager. Working independently, with minimal supervision, the assistant shall take action as required by the duties and responsibilities given to them.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
  • Collect receipts, organize, code and complete expense report for construction account credit cards
  • Track and coordinate van and trailer regular and unexpected maintenance and keep inspections up to date
  • Coordinate dumpster and port-a-john send out/pull ins on build sites
  • Put in requests for power, water, gas hook ups & relocations etc. and track status
  • Organize and update key inventory of all job sites, trailers, conex boxes, etc.
  • Responsible for maintaining receipts for all purchases
  • Assist in tracking punch list items to finish construction jobs
  • Update list of construction contacts
  • Call in request for inspections
  • Track and follow up on warranty work on completed jobs including coordinating with homeowners
  • Stock and relocation of conex boxes on and off site
  • Organization of conex boxes and trailers to assist site supervisors
  • Keep track of changing lock box combinations for all active jobsites
  • Order office supplies through Administrative Specialist
  • Keep construction office clean and organized
  • Pick up and deliver building supplies as needed to assist site supervisors
  • When on site, give volunteer/safety brief. Ensure all volunteers are actively engaged and having a good Habitat experience to encourage them to come back again.
  • Ensure site safety while on site with volunteers as well as taking preventive/set up measures
  • Leading volunteers on build site in designated tasks within ability level once or twice a week
  • Stock and monitor First Aid kits in vans, trailers and conex boxes
  • Organize and clean construction warehouse to make as functional as possible to supply jobs/store tools and equipment
  • Update construction office calendar
  • Respond to phone inquiries about ABWK or Repair Corps programs
  • Meet with Habitat families to choose and record color selections for cabinets, countertops and flooring
  • Coordinate with suppliers for cabinet quotes measurements, order approval, and delivery dates
  • Coordinate with flooring installers for quotes, color selection and installation
  • Submit window, lumber, shingle, nail, siding orders from building material suppliers and coordinate pick up/onsite delivery dates and material placement
  • Trim package take offs and orders
  • Coordinate with plumbers, electricians, HVAC, roofers, etc., for bids and quotes and following through to completion of work
  • Coordinate order and delivery of scaffolding and heavy equipment rentals
  • Unload materials from trucks.
  • Coordinate and ensure all projects are completed on time.
  • Welcome registered volunteers and supervise them while on site to include reviewing OSHA safety standards.
  • Perform construction punch list
  • Assist on construction sites as needed
EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE
  • Requires graduation from high school or equivalency.
  • Previous experience with nonprofit or government agency preferred
  • Effective written, oral, and presentation skills
  • Ability to handle multiple tasks and deadlines with changing priorities
  • Proficient computer skills including email, spreadsheets, database, word processing and presentation software.
  • Strong knowledge of engineering and construction standards, materials and companies/vendors processes.

  • Must possess a positive attitude, flexibility, integrity, and mature judgment.
  • Candidate must possess the ability to multi-task and produce a quick turn-around for assigned duties.
  • Ability to lift 75lbs. lifting and hauling or materials required.
  • Comfort with heights (roofing, ladders, scaffolding)

  • Must be willing to work in various weather conditions (heat, cold, rain etc.)
  • Experience with planning, organizing, executing and communicating in a fast-paced, limited-resource environment.
