Tracie Jada O’Brien Transgender Student Scholarship Fund
2017 Application
This scholarship is open to students from or residing in San Diego County that identify as transgender, are living outside of the gender binary and/or are in the process of transitioning their gender. This scholarship fund will grant monetary scholarships every year, as funds permit, to students that will be starting or continuing their education at 2-year College, 4-year College, technical, grad school, or vocational training programs. This year’s scholarships will be awarded at the 13th Annual Transgender Day of Empowerment on April 14, 2017, at San Diego’s LGBT Community Center. Recipients must complete an application and provide all required information to substantiate eligibility. Failure to provide required information will render the application ineligible. Applicants may apply for four consecutive years. After a fourth year of funding, awardees will no longer be eligible.
Applications will be available starting February 03, 2017 through March 31, 2017.
All applicants must:
- Complete a 250 word essay on: What is your study focus area and how did you become interested in this particular field of study?
- Complete all questions on the attached application packet
- Attach proof of acceptance to or enrollment in the school/educational institution where you plan to study.
All applications will be reviewed against established objective criteria including: established financial need, written essay, and academic promise. All decisions of the committee are final no appeal rights will be extended to applicants. If you were not selected in prior years, we encourage you to apply again.
