COL Sheehy received a Regular Army commission in the Infantry from the University of Kansas in 1988 as a distinguished military graduate.

His first assignment was Fort Bragg, NC where he served as a rifle platoon leader in 4th Battalion, 325th Airborne Infantry Regiment (AIR). While assigned to the 4/325 AIR he participated in Operation Just Cause, the airborne assault into Panama in 1989. COL Sheehy also participated in Operations Desert Shield and Desert Storm in Iraq 1990-1991.

When he returned from Desert Strom he attended the Infantry Officer Advance Course (IOAC) at Fort Benning, GA. Following graduation from IOAC he was assigned to Fort Hood, TX. COL Sheehy commanded B Company, 2nd Battalion, 7th Calvary Division. During his time in command COL Sheehy was selected to join the 75th Ranger Regiment. He was assigned to 2nd Battalion, 75th Ranger at Fort Lewis, WA in 1996- 1999. COL Sheehy commanded C Company, 2/75RGR.

While assigned to 2/75RGR COL Sheehy was selected to attend Command and General Staff College (CGSC) at Fort Leavenworth, KS. Prior to graduation COL Sheehy applied for and was accepted into the Army Acquisition Corps. His first assignment was as an APM at PM CISS at Fort Belvoir, VA. Following that assignment COL Sheehy was assigned as the only ACQ officer in HQDA G3/5/7 in the Pentagon. While in 3/5/7 he was responsible for establishing the 1-N list for the Army Requirements and Resource Board (AR2B) and determining funding solutions to meet the Operational Needs (ONS) in support of Operation Iraqi Freedom (OIF).

In 2005, while serving in that capacity he was a by name request (BNR) to lead Field Team 1 of the Improvised Explosive Device Task Force (IED TF). As Field Team leader he was deployed for over a year to Mosul, Iraq where he and his team focused on reducing bomb makers, weapons caches, and developing IED TTPs. When COL Sheehy returned from OIF he was selected as PM Bradley in Warren, MI in 2007. As PM Bradley from 2007-2010 COL Sheehy focused his team’sefforts on improving Bradley lethality and survivability in urban environments and against IEDs. He also worked to improve space, weight, power, and cooling limitation on the platform.

In 2010 he was selected to attend the Army War College but was asked to defer that assignment and take command of PM Armored Brigade Combat Team (PM ABCT), an O6 billet, immediately. COL Sheehy led the successful advancement of the Paladin Improvement Management (PIM) through Milestone B and Milestone C and into initial production. He also initiated modernization efforts on both the Bradley Fighting Vehicle and the Abrams Main Battle Tank. COL Sheehy was also responsible for moving the Armored Multi-Purpose Vehicle (AMPV) program from concept through MDD and into a program of record. COL Sheehy was recognized as the Army’s O6 PM of the Year.

COL Sheehy attended the Army War College at Carlisle Barracks, PA in 2014 and graduated as a Distinguished Graduate. He is currently assigned as the Chief of Staff for PEO Command, Control, and Communications – Tactical (C3T) at Aberdeen Proving Grounds, MD.

His awards and decorations include Master Rated Jump Wings with Combat Star, Combat Infantrymen’s Badge, HALO Wings, Ranger Tab, Bronze Star with oak leaf, and Expeditionary Medal with Spearhead.

COL Sheehy has two master’s degrees; Acquisition and Program Management, and Strategic Leadership.
