Weeks 1(July 3-7) and 2 (July 10-14)Outdoor Adventures!
Discover our outdoor habitat as we explore our Nature Trail, create magical fairy houses. and go on a nature Scavenger Hunt! Learn all about our local Native American culture, traditions and crafts. Be a nature detective- track and identify Maine animals, plants and trees. Jr. Chef cooking project: Make s’mores. Chewonki “Fur, Feathers and Feet” program Tuesday July 11.
Weeks3 (July 17-21) and 4 ( July 24-28) Outer Space Adventures!
Take a seat in an imaginary spaceship, blast off and explore the solar system! We’ll make a moonscape, 3d rockets, stars and planets. How large is the solar system? Find out by creating a scale model of the solar system with toilet paper! What would an astronaut eat? Sample real astronaut food. Explore the stars and constellations that fill our night sky. Create our own constellations with marshmallows and toothpicks. Crazy Kitchen Science Experiments: make “galaxy slime”and soda powered rockets!
Weeks5 (July 31-Aug. 4) and 6 (Aug. 7-11) Jurassic Adventures!
Explore the world of the dinosaurs! Learn about reptiles that are still alive today–modern dinosaur look-alikes!. Jr. Chef cooking project: dinosaur stew and dinosaur salad! Become paleontologist and dig for dinosaur bones. Create your own fossils. Crazy Kitchen Science Experiment: creating and erupting a volcano.Do dinosaur math outside and measure out just how big those dinosaurs were. Activities will include fossil making, and working as a team to construct large dinosaur box sculpture. We’ll create our own imaginary dinosaur and name it.
Weeks7(Aug. 14-18) and 8 Aug 21-25) Tropical Rainforest and Ocean Adventures!
Discover all of the fantastic creatures that inhabit the layers of the rainforest - Forest Floor, The Understory, The Canopy and the Emergent (treetop) Layer. Create a tropical rainforest with 3D vines to transform our class! Learn the importance of camouflage and adaptation of rainforest animals. Sample rainforest fruits. Examine real bamboo. We’ll also explore our local ocean habitat, and end camp with a “Wacky Water Day!”Crazy Kitchen Science Experiments: Elephant Toothpaste ,rainforest in a jar, and ocean in a bottle.
