Coach Matta’s Mandatory Meeting

Minutes

From February 8th 2016

  1. Welcome - Mike Mastrog, Downingtown East Football Association (DEFA) Co-President
  2. Coach Matta
  • Model Program- Having a Model football program is always the goal. We want to continue to have a 1st class reputation. It is Important that the players model good behavior in the locker room, weight room and in the classroom as well as on the field.
  • Parental Involvement- Coach Matta would like every parent to get involved in DEFA. It not only builds a stronger organization, it gives parents a way to bond with players.
  • Fundraising- DEFA has 3 major fundraisers: Golf Outing, Blue and Gold Camp and Gold Cards. Any fresh ideas for fundraising, are appreciated. All fundraising proceed goes back to the DEFA/Players
  • Communication – Players should inform Coach Matta if they are unable to attend a football related commitment. He is trying to build players into responsible men, so parents should not be calling or emailing. Encourage your son to keep the coaches informed. Coach Matta does not have a cell phone. He is always available to discuss grades, tutors, college recommendations etc. He can be reached at the school, via email or at his home. His preferred method of contact is phone or face to face. This helps to diminish any misunderstandings that can be unintentionally implied through email. Relationships are important to him and he cares about the players. Please do not approach Coach Matta before or after any contest.
  • Schedule- Practices may change. Please know that the players are never left at the school unsupervised if you are late to pick them up. A coach/trainer will always be there. There will be 10 games this season.

8/26 The first Game is v Delaware Valley @ home. JV will play before varsity instead of traveling to Del Val on Monday.

There will be 6 Classifications starting this season (A-AAAAAA)

  • Concussions- the team obtained 100 new helmets over the past 2 years. They are 5 star (safety) rated helmets.

Trainers are there to ensure the players are healthy and will address any injury immediately. The players are taught correct safety techniques. Weight lifting will ultimately make them stronger.

  • Heat Camp- Players must attend the 5 day heat acclimation camp. This is a PIAA rule. If they do not attend, they will not be able to play on the scrimmage.
  • Hazing- Coach Matta has a zero tolerance for hazing. There is no form of hazing or initiations on the East team at all. Please inform Coach Matta or Athletic Director-Earl Burnham immediately with concerns regarding hazing reported by your player.
