Coach Education Courses 2011/2012

Dear Club,

New issues in 2011/2012

Please find enclosed details of Wiltshire’s Coach Education plans for the 2011/2012 winter programme. As you will see we are going to be running 4 UKCC1 courses, 1 UKCC2 course and the Coach Development Workshops. These CDWs are for UKCC2 coaches who wish to develop their skills further without committing to the UKCC3 programme.

As with the UKCC2 in 2010/11,applicants will need to apply for this course and complete a coach’s profile to support their application.

New Costs for UKCC1 Courses

In 2010/11, Wiltshire Cricket made a concerted effort to reduce the cost of Coach Education courses for all categories of affiliated club. However as a result of the current economic climate, it has not been possible to keep the cost the same in 2011/12. Due to the rising costs associated with running these courses (resources, facility hire, etc.)we have had to increase the cost of the UKCC1 course.

It should be noted that the price for the UKCC1 course still remains cheaper than the corresponding course in 2009/10.

In an effort to encourage applicants to apply for the UKCC2 course, the cost of the UKCC2 will be frozen at 2010/11 prices.

Subsidies for UKCC1 Courses

Throughout the 2011/2012 programme WCCL will continue to provide subsidies for a maximum of 4 candidates per club and to a maximum allowance of £200 total subsidy per club for the year. These subsidies will be provided on the following basis:

-The WCCL will continue to subsidise coaching courses for clubs who only have teams playing within WCCL to the value of 50% of the total course price per candidate.

-For clubs who have teams playing in WEPL and WCCL they will be paid subsidies on the same basis above but on a pro rata basis of the number of teams in the WCCL compared to their overall number of Saturday league teams (for example, a club with 2 teams in WEPL and 2 teams in WCCL will receive a 25% subsidy per candidate).

* Please note that WCCL will issue subsidies automatically by sending 1 cheque to each club following the end of the entire winter coach education programme.

These arrangements mean that there is a difference between WEPL and WCCL clubs in terms of the subsidies they are entitled to. However, we have attempted to cater for this difference in our pricing policy for courses that can be seen later on in this document. We have also kept prices lower for clubs who play in neither WEPL nor WCCL in recognition that their leagues do not provide any subsidies at all.

Subsidies for UKCC2 Courses

Wiltshire Activity and Sports Partnership (WASP) arecontinuing to run a bursary scheme for any candidate going through a UKCC2 qualification.

WASP Bursary Scheme

Who can apply?

Any individual who currently holds a UKCC Level 1 qualification and wishes to progress to a UKCC Level 2 sports coaching qualification. Applicants must be resident in Wiltshire or Swindon and will be using their qualification within the county.

Resources

The maximum grant that can be applied for is 50% of the actual course cost (not to include transport or accommodation) to a maximum of £150.

In return for the grant, WASP asks that you deliver 3 x 1 hour voluntary sessions in 3 different settings, to include a school, after school, club or community setting.

The bursary scheme has been set up by both WASP & Wiltshire Council.

For further information on the bursary scheme or to apply, please contact Dominique Oughton, Coaching Development Manager on 07917030946 or

As this bursary scheme is available to any UKCC2 candidates it negates the need for WCCL to offer any subsidies at UKCC2 and allows their funding to stretch further at UKCC1. The WASP bursary scheme also means that there is no need for WCB to differentiate between WEPL, WCCL and any other clubs within its pricing policy. This is reflected later on in the document.

Note – It is recommended that clubs apply for their UKCC2 subsidy through WASP before their candidate is accepted on the course. WASP will not authorise subsidies retrospectively.

Subsidies – A summary

To summarise the subsidy arrangements for 2010/2011 please see below:

UKCC1 – Subsidies will be available to clubs playing in WCCL. Clubs who play within WCCL do not need to do anything in order to claim their subsidies as these will be issued automatically by cheque during the summer of 2012.

UKCC2 – Clubs will need to apply directly to Dominque Oughton in order to claim a bursary from WASP. This is not the responsibility of WCB.

ECB CA Sign Up

Wiltshire Cricket remain committed to ensuring that the county’s newly qualified coaches produce the best coaching possible once they return to their clubs. For this reason we are offering a discount on the standard cost of the UKCC1 and 2 courses to enable you to join the ECBCA.

If you complete an ECBCA membership application form at the same time as you apply for your course, you will get £25 off the cost of the course.

The cost of ECBCA membership is £25 if paid by DD or £29 if paid by cheque.

UKCC2 Application Process

The UKCC2 course has a limited number of places available, therefore Wiltshire Coach Education go to great lengths to ensure that the right people end up on the right courses. Therefore for the 2011/12 winter UKCC2 course, we will be continuing to accept nominations for placement on the UKCC2 course from clubs and individuals alike. However, every UKCC2 applicant will be expected to complete a “Coaches Profile” detailing the amount of coaching that they have already completed as a UKCC1 coach.

The “profile” will allow the candidate to give some information about:

  • how long they have been coaching cricket (or any other sport)
  • indicate the type of age groups that they have been working with
  • how many hours coaching experience they have had
  • any aspirations they may have with regard to using their UKCC2 qualification

With the UKCC2 course being very popular, this process will go some way to ensuring that each course has the right candidates enrolling.

Wiltshire Cricket is very proud of its Coach Education and believes that the 2011/2012 winter schedule represents a very comprehensive programmethat will cater for the needs of as many clubs and individuals as possible. However, as you know Coach Education courses get booked up very quickly and so it is important that your club acts on this information as soon as possible, as course places will be allocated on a first come first served basis.

Once all application forms have been collected from candidates within your club please ensure that a cheque for the appropriate amount is made out to the ‘Wiltshire Cricket Limited’ and posted together with the application forms to Stanley Park Sports Ground, Stanley Lane, Chippenham, Wiltshire, SN15 3RR.

Please note that candidates wishing to join the ECBCA by Direct Debit (£25) should complete the mandate on the final page. Candidates wishing to join by cheque should include a separate cheque for their ECBCA membership payable to “ECBCA” (£29).

In the meantime if you have any questions please do not hesitate to get in touch.

Yours sincerely,

Ali Goddard
