Remember; OneDrive is storage, Windows Office Online is an application. But they work together for you to create a document using Windows Office Online and storing that document on OneDrive. Google Drive is storage, Google Docs is an application.

Web Apps and Cloud Storage

A WebApp (web application) is an application that is accessed over a network such as the Internet or an intranet. The term may also mean a computer software application that is hosted in a browser-controlled environment. For business applications such as word processing, spreadsheets, and presentation software, you can utilize Google Docs ( or Windows Office Online (
Office Web Apps (Google or Office) enable you to make updates to your word documents, excel spreadsheets, and powerpoint presentations from virtually any computer with an Internet connection and browser.

Google Docs

Google Docs is free, Web-based word processor, spreadsheet, presentation, form, and data storage service offered by Google. It allows users to create and edit documents online while collaborating in real-time with other users. Data storage of any files up to 1GB each in size.

With Google Docs, I can create and share a word document, spreadsheet, or powerpoint presentation.

I can privately share a document: Google Doc - private You can view this document, you cannot edit the document. Try to update this document, you would need an invitation from me to update this document

I can publicly share a document: Google Doc - public You do not need an invitation or permission from me to view or edit this document. Add your information to the above document. Be sure to ‘save and close’

Windows Office Online

Windows Office Online is free, Web-based word processor, spreadsheet, presentation, and data storage service offered by Microsoft. It allows users to create and edit documents online while collaborating in real-time with other users. Data storage (OneDrive: allows you to store any file up to 25GB each in size. With Windows Office Online
