CLOSING DAY SPEECH BY THE DIRECTOR OF ISEGERETOSCHOOL,

MRS. MILLICENT OKU

Our esteemed parents, distinguished guests, pupils, ladies and gentlemen, I salute you all. Good morning?

It is with heartfelt sincere gratitude and pleasure to stand before you and share with you the experiences we have had for since the inception of IsegeretotoSchool, so to speak, three months old. First and foremost, let me cordially welcome you all on board, feel free and at home on this academics day.

I call it academic day, because today gives you a parent/guardian, a window of opportunity to monitor and evaluate what your daughter or son has so far undertaken this first term. Your will recall how the term kicked off with many challenges, bottlenecks and shortcomings. But, as a determined group, thus we rose to the occasion as need demanded and tied up the loose ends that were staring us in the face. Though it hasn’t been easy, but you will agree that we have made a step forward.

Dear parents, your child’s academic performance is the key issue why we have Isegeretoto, to empower and develop a well educated and self reliant community, that will live up to the challenge of the future. This can’t be reached and attained if our curriculum is not well steered. So far, we have staff of12 teachers handling your children from the early childhood classes to upper primary. Efforts and correct measures have been put in place to ensure that water is not passing under the bridge.

It’s my pride to report that since the January evaluation tests, we have been recording a positive deviation in the school means score. For example, in the end of January exam, the school has a total mean score of 306.67. As we end the term, it is encouraging to note that we have posted a school mean score of 394.21. This is based on an external exam, the Embakasi cluster, which the whole school sat. Ladies and gentlemen, if this is not work, how else better can it be described? I believe with more enhanced co-operation from you, this school will make headlines and go places in the near future.

It is gratifying to note that we have a resolve to keep the pot boiling in order to achieve the desired goals, objectives and targets. All the subject panel heads are developing the right frame works that are geared toward that. To start with, the language panels have been advised to see to it that our children rightly communicate in the correct fluent medium. Remember that we have a mosaic pupilage that needs to be blended. So far, we have begun and soon we shall win that part.

Class attendance by teachers has greatly improved and I would personally attribute it to the positive results. We are developing a culture that will be a basis for future systems, to make sure that your children are assisted to the best. We have introduced computer lesson from class one, to make learning more enjoyable and expose the learners.

Ladies and gentlemen, with the arrival of the bus lesson begin on time in the morning with good attendance. At least a score has been made as you know time is money and we need to spend it dwell.

Parents, with all these I would like to urge all to cooperate and help us move on. Through the term, the going has been good but not without its fair share of limitations. For example, we drew our food budget based on last year’s prices before they escalated and went high. This is a challenge which I would like us to discuss and find a solution to. You will also realize that we factored a vote on repair, maintenance and insurance in the school fees. This will help our machinery and vehicles be in good condition to serve all well.

And last but not least I want to request this meeting to form an awards committee that will be responsible for the awards and prizes to reward to teachers and pupils efforts. This has so far been done by the school and we would like parents to take a leading and pivotal role in motivating the said people. Am sure if we join hand the sky will be the limit

With those remarks, I beg to move and pray that all that has started well, will also end well as we look forward to better future.

We shall be there for you and you will be there for us.

Thanks and god bless you all.

Millicent Oku (Mrs.)
