The New Advanced Autoglazing Apprenticeship Standard

Employer Consultation

Opens:12th February 2016

Closes:25th March 2016

“The industry needs your feedback to help shape the new advanced AutoglazingApprenticeship now.”

Consultation context: In 2013 the Government announced big reforms to the way apprenticeships are to be designed and implemented in England. New standard-based apprenticeships will replace current frameworks as part of the Government’s employer driven Trailblazer Strategy. Around 200 new standards across many sectors have been developed so far and are ready for delivery. A group of employers from the Autoglazing Industry working on behalf of the sector have been leading this redesign. In this once in a generation opportunity they are calling for Autoglazing sector and key stakeholders to get involved to have their say on the essential knowledge, skills and behaviours that an Advanced Autoglazing Technician should display on completion of a vocational programme of learning/training.

How to have your say: The Autoglazing employer group urges you view the key Advanced Autoglazing Technician Apprenticeship Standard document which accompanies this and carefully consider what you as an employer in the sectors identified, would expect to see from your apprentices. Please:

  • Examine and reflect uponthe Advanced Autoglazing Technician Apprenticeship Standard’ document which outlines the occupational profiles and essential elements such as the knowledge, skills and behaviours required by a person in an advanced Autoglazing technician role
  • Consider in the specialist skills, knowledge and behaviours that an advanced Autoglazing technician would need to display in the different working environments identified in the standard.
  • Then please complete the questionnaire below to express your thoughts on what the Advanced Autoglazing Technician Apprenticeship Standard document includes

Your Input is most appreciated and will help shape the future of the Autoglazing industry. Please pass the consultation to as many employers within your network as possible.

Thank you for your support

7 – The employer working group had much debate over the inclusion of a qualification within the standard and did consider the ATA route used by some employer groups within the sector. However, in the end we decided not to include the ATA qualifications as this would make them a qualification that would be compulsory for all apprentices. Instead the group felt that the apprenticeship training programme would prepare apprentices to the level of the ATA and if individual employers wished for their technicians to undertake the ATA assessments this could be done outside of the apprenticeship.
