Title:Maintenance Officer (Handyman/Gardener)

Care Service Employee – Grade 2

Qualifications:

Essential:Previous experience with minor equipment and building maintenance.

Previous experience with grounds and gardening maintenance

Desirable:Relevant Trade or other certificates

Testing and Tagging of Electrical Equipment (TAFE Certificate)

Responsible for:Completion of routine corrective maintenance, scheduled preventative maintenance and minor repair of equipment and capital stock to facilitate the delivery of quality services at the Lilliane Brady Village.

Maintenance of the grounds, internal courtyards and gardens of the Lilliane Brady Village to ensure a presentable and welcoming environment.

Minor repairs and maintenance of buildings to ensure a safe and homelike environment

Management of facility equipment and assets according to policy and protocols

Responsible to:The Director of Nursing.

Hours of work:38 hours per week (9 day fortnight)

Award:Local Government, Aged, Disability and Home Care (State) Award.

The LillianeBradyVillage has an obligation under Work Health and Safety legislation to provide a safe and healthy environment for all employees, residents and visitors.

4.1Perform work activities and functions in a manner which promotes personal safety and risk management.

4.2Identify hazards in the work area and report in accordance with the LillianeBradyVillage’s policy and protocol.

4.3Report all resident, staff and visitor incidents utilising the appropriate incident forms.

4.4Follow organisational guidelines for safe manual handling.

4.5Select and use appropriate equipment according to the LillianeBradyVillage’s policy and procedures.

4.6Apply Standard Precautions according to the LillianeBradyVillage’s policy and procedures.

4.7Use and store chemicals in accordance with relevant Material Safety Data Sheets

4.8Attend compulsory fire safety lectures and evacuation drills.

  1. Maintain and Repair Equipment and Capital stock to Facilitate the Delivery of Quality Services at the LillianeBradyVillage
  2. Undertake routine and scheduled corrective maintenance and/or notify the Director of Nursing if external provider is required to undertake repair/s. Record all such maintenance as per facility policy.
  3. Liaise with the Director of Nursing to establish maintenance requirements for all equipment utilised in the facility.
  4. Liaise with Director of Nursing in the coordination of external providers for predetermined preventative maintenance programs.
  5. Maintain an ‘Equipment Register’ in order that maintenance and the incidents of repairs can be monitored.
  6. Use and maintain maintenance equipment in accordance with manufacturers' instructions.
  7. Advise and make recommendations to the Director of Nursing regarding:
  8. the suitability of equipment prior to purchase (in relation to maintenance and repair requirements)
  9. the need for the replacement of equipment where maintenance/repair costs exceed replacement costs
  10. the performance of external maintenance and repair contractors
  11. future maintenance requirements at the LillianeBradyVillage.

  17. Pruning, replacement of shrubs trees etc.
