POSITION DESCRIPTION

POSITION TITLE:Nursing Clinical Facilitator

REPORTS TO:Reports to nursing faculty member

Position Summary:

Assist nursing faculty member to mentor, supervise, and facilitate the learning of students in the clinical setting:select patient assignments for students, role model safe and effective clinical skills, review student preparatory work, provide supervision of students,and give input to the nursing faculty member for the evaluation of students.

Responsibilities:

1.Attends an orientation for Clinical Facilitators

2.Reports to the designated nursing faculty member(s)

3.Selects patient assignments for students prior to the clinical experience, communicates

assignments as determined by nursing faculty

4. Facilitates student learning in the clinical setting

5.Role models safe and effective clinical skills
6. Reviews student preparatory work prior to providing patient care
7. Provides supervision of students including patient care, medication administration and

documentation
8. Participates in post-clinical conferences as determined by faculty

9. Assists faculty with simulation learning as determined by faculty
10. Evaluates written work of students

11. Provides input to faculty for evaluation of student learning

Qualifications:

1.Baccalaureate prepared RN, current Minnesota license

2.Ability to fulfill semester commitment

3.Previous preceptor or mentor experience
4. Experience with agency, nursing unit or patient population, one year preferred
5. Enthusiasm for working with student nurses
6. CurrentCPRcertification
7. Immunizations and verification of health status
8. Medicare/Medicaid fraud check will be completed once hired

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, ABILITIES:

  • All abilities of professional nurse practice as specified by the Minnesota Board of Nursing.
  • Ability to create clinical accommodations for students with special assistance needs.

TERM:200 hours in the spring (August – December)devoted to working with clinical groups of 6 junior and senior students providing nursing cares for patientsat Fairview Ridges Hospitalmost Thursdays from 2-10 pmand assisting faculty with simulation some Tuesdays 8 am-12 pm or 12-4 pm.
