Classroom Expectations for Spanish 1 & 2 with Señora C. 2017-2018
A. Class Rules
1. Be on time.
2. Be prepared.
a. Class begins each day with a Calentamiento/Warm-up. Start it right away.
b. Keep all assignments for the week together. Work is handed in each Friday at the beginning of class.
3. Be courteous.
a. Respect others and their property.
b. Clean your area and help keep the room neat.
c. No gum or food, unless teacher permits
d. Please raise your hand instead of speaking out.
4. Stay on task- time is allotted to complete all work in class.
5. Listen. Pay attention and stay focused and present.
B. Grades
1. The grade is composed of the following:
a. Tests and Final Exams= 30% (Re-takes are not allowed)
b. Quizzes=15% (Re-takes allowed if taken before the Chapter test)
c. Projects=25% (One project per Quarter- so this grade weighs heavily)
d. Homework=15% Keep all HW for the quarter to verify any discrepancies in grades.
2. Tests
a. An appropriate atmosphere for testing is to be maintained. Talking or any other communication may result in a student receiving a zero.
b. Tests will include an oral and/or listening portion.
c. All tests are cumulative. Re-takes on tests are not permitted. Quizzes (in preparation for tests, may be re-taken before the Chapter test is administered.)
3. Homework
a. Homework is assigned on a regular basis and is posted on my web page in the weekly lesson plans.
b. Homework will be due every Friday at the beginning of class. All classwork and work completed at home may be considered homework to be turned in on Friday. What this means is that students must complete all classwork and then some section(s) will be selected to turn in on Friday. Homework is 15% of the Spanish grade. Work that is one day late is worth 50% - after that the work is not worth any credit.
C. Expected Classroom Behavior-Cell phone policy
1. Students are expected to complete their own homework/projects. Cheating is an immediate referral, whether it is homework, a quiz or a test.
2. It is important that students listen and speak to each other in Spanish during class time. No electronic devices may be used during class unless by teacher permission.
3. Keep phones out of sight (in backpack/off desk). Students who have phones out and are using them without teacher permission will be asked to put their phone in the cell phone rack at the front of the room until the end of class. Refusal to do so will result in a phone call to parents and a referral to the office.
Absences
A. Check my web page for weekly assignments if you are absent.
B. Students are responsible for making up all work missed due to an excused absence.
C. Students have an equal number of days as the number of days they missed class to make up the missed assignments.
D. Students who are absent the day before or the day of an exam should plan to take it within two days of returning. Absent students are also responsible for handing in homework that may have been due. Field trips and sport activities are not an excused absence- work will be considered late if not handed in the next class period after the absence.
These guidelines are made so that each student has the best opportunity to learn. The number one rule is “respect”: For yourself, your classmates, your teachers and your school. Go Hawks!
