Classified Staff Committee Meeting

Present:Krsta Djukanovic, Sandy Duveneck (Past President), Cheryl Gundersen, Eva Hoaglund, Ricci Knutson, Peg Lawton, Heather Miles (chair), April Puryear, Linda Wood, John Literski, Kaye Ludwig, Sue Bushweiler

The meeting was called to order by Heather Miles at 9:40 AM.

1.It was moved and seconded to approve the minutes of the August 16, 2007 meeting. The motion was approved.

  1. Status of Women. The UW-P Status of Women Committee will be meeting Wednesday, 9/26. The search and screen for the Status of Women position at UW-System is on-going, and is at the phone interview stage.
  1. Classified Staff Conference. Sue reported that the next meeting of this committee will be held in October.
  1. Health, Safety and Physical Environment Committee This committee has not met.
  1. Dollars for $ense Committee. The luncheon was held and was a success. The committee still needs to find a chair for this year. Ricci is willing to coach the next chair. The deadlines for submissions are the end of September, December, March, and June. Heather will accept suggestions for this quarter.
  1. Classified Staff Promotion Committee. This committee has not met.
  1. University Planning Council. No meeting has been held.
  1. Mentorship/Child Care. Karen Grabher is working on grants for child care.
  1. Search and Screen Committees. Child Care Director search did not complete successfully. Janet Robbins has agreed to stay on in a reduced capacity until a new director is found. Deb Boswell is serving on this search and screen. Jenny Cronin is doing the PA work on the SHCC Nurse Practitioner position search, which is in the interview stage.
  1. Morale Issues. An email has been sent out asking for additional volunteers for this small committee. Ricci, Cheryl and Eva have volunteered from the classified staff committee. The committee also needs a chair.
  1. Emeritus Status. The subcommittee has not yet met.
  1. Classified Staff Distinguished Service Award. The criteria will be reviewed in December. The committee received a note of thanks from Karen Sorensen.
  1. Classified Staff Scholarship. Ricci and Cheryl represented the classified staff and attended the Scholar and Donor dinner. They reported that the dinner was very nice, and they sat with this year’s recipient, Tamara Wienke.
  1. Open Enrollment. Members are reminded that October is the time for open enrollment in benefit programs.
  1. Barriers to Education. Heather spoke regarding tuition reimbursement, flex-time to attend classes, etc. She would like people to report back about any situations that they are familiar with where classified staff members have encountered barriers to furthering their education.

The committee also discussed the University’s lack of internal searches for academic staff positions, which would enable classified staff to have a greater opportunity for advancement.

  1. PARS. There was discussion regarding approved PARS.

The meeting was adjourned at 10:30 AM. The next meeting will be held on October 17, 2007, and Eugene Fujimoto will be attending.
