Dharma Training Program

The Program is designed to give the student an in-depth understanding of Buddhism and Buddhist practice in the three major Buddhist traditions– Theravada, Mahayana, and Tantrayana. The first year of the Program provides a broad overview of Buddhism, the second year focuses on Buddhist sutras (writings attributed to the Buddha), the third year focuses on Buddhist philosophy and application such as science, psychology, and psychotherapy. Students who complete the three-year Program receive a Certificate of Buddhist Studies.

Dharma Teachers Program

Students who complete the Dharma Training Program may be invited by Ven. Hoang to enter the one-year Dharma Teacher Training Program to prepare for membership in the Dharma Teachers Order, an order of lay teachers founded by Ven. Hoang to spread the Dharma in the United States. Students who complete the Dharma Teachers Program are ordained by Rev. Hoang, and become members of the Dharma Teachers Order.

Requirements for Each Year of the Program

·  Tuition for either Program is a donation of $100 per year made at the beginning of the class year to support the program.

·  Attendance at each scheduled class, or a written summary of the week’s text, submitted to Ven. Hoang.

·  Retreat attendance at a designated location:

o  Three one-day retreats.

o  A three-day retreat.

o  In addition, students are encouraged to attend other retreats.

·  Participation in the ‘Dharma Festival’ that ends the three-day retreat. (Students answer questions posed by Ven, Hoang about the material covered during the year).

Additional Requirement for Year Two

·  A ten-page paper on any subject that includes Buddhist issues.

Our Teacher

Venerable Thich Tri Hoang

The Venerable Thich Tri Hoang was ordained in Vietnam at age 24. He has studied Buddhism extensively under many Vietnamese Venerables including Thich Nhat Hanh. He has led Buddhist meditation retreats in Holland, France, and England for many years, and is currently the Abbot of Hai An Pagoda. Venerable Tri Hoang currently teaches Vietnamese language and culture at Central Connecticut State University in New Britain.
