CLASS TITLE:WEB PAGE DESIGN SPECIALIST
ALLOCATION FACTOR(S)
This is technical graphic design work for web-based applications producing graphic sketches, designs, and copy layouts for online content, by: 1) determining size and arrangement of illustrative material and copy; and 2) arranging layout based upon available space using sound layout principles and aesthetic design concepts by utilizing industry-wide recognized languages/software products.
EXAMPLES OF WORK PERFORMED:

- Designs basic graphics using multi-layered graphic software.
- Extracts designs or graphics from non-proprietary graphical or multi-media sources for use in developing web pages.
- Revises graphic images into appropriate formats based on size and quality criteria.
- Visits multiple web sites to gather information.
- Produces basic graphics, graphical designs and copy layouts for online content.
- Links pages using basic industry-wide languages/software products.
- Conducts information assessments to determine owner requirements and solutions to meet user needs.
- Creates web pages.
- Performs related work as required.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES:

- Knowledge of recognized industry-wide web development language.
- Knowledge of recognized industry-wide web development software/programs.
- Knowledge of basic graphical design techniques.
- Knowledge of P.C. based operating systems.
- Knowledge of recognized industry-wide graphics design software/programs.
- Knowledge of aesthetic design concepts.
- Knowledge of TCP and URLs.
- Knowledge of File Transfer Protocol (FTP) software/program.
- Knowledge of principles, practices and techniques of basic web page construction.
- Ability to produce basic graphics.
- Ability to understand and write accepted industry-wide markup languages.
- Ability to construct basic web page.
- Ability to view and copy web page code from pages online.
- Ability to arrange graphics and text within a web page.
- Ability to plan, organize and coordinate work assignments.
- Ability to select most appropriate graphic format for given application, based on size and quality relationship (i.e. Jpeg, Tif, Gif, etc.).
- Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with others.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
- Completion of 60 Semester or 90 quarter hours of college course work from an accredited institution which includes four courses in computer science, graphic design, web design, multimedia design or management information systems; or
- Completion of a 720 classroom hour program of study from a vocation/technical school or accredited community college in an area of graphic design, web design, multimedia design, data processing or computer science; or
- One year of experience in the above-related fields will substitute for the required education.
