CLASS TITLE:SINGLE-ENGINE RECIPROCAL AIRCRAFT PILOT-FIREFIGHTING

ALLOCATION FACTOR(S)

This is work piloting a single-engine reciprocal aircraft and providing aerial firefighting surveillance for fire suppression operations.

EXAMPLES OF WORK PERFORMED:

  • Pilots and navigates a single-engine reciprocal aircraft in the performance of duties as required by the employing agency.
  • Coordinates and provides aerial firefighting surveillance and intelligence for fire suppression operations for ground crews and aerial suppression.
  • Coordinates and conducts preventive maintenance on aircraft to minimize out-of-service time and to satisfy established aircraft maintenance requirements.
  • Transports supplies and equipment as assigned.
  • Maintains current knowledge of rules, regulations, and flight conditions to ensure safe conduct of all flights.
  • Directs and coordinates ground crew operations from the air in law enforcement and investigative assignments.
  • Trains fire control personnel in the capabilities and limitations of aircraft.
  • Assists in the purchasing of aircraft and other related equipment by making preliminary investigations and writing the specifications for use by the Division of Purchasing in the Department of Management Services.
  • Operates aircraft radio and navigational aids.
  • Performs related work as required.

  • Knowledge of aerial flight procedures.
  • Knowledge of the principles of aeronautics and navigation.
  • Knowledge of Federal Aviation Administration regulations.
  • Skill in piloting single-engine reciprocal aircraft.
  • Skill in operating navigational aids.
  • Skill in flying under instrument conditions.
  • Ability to pilot and navigate single-engine reciprocal aircraft.
  • Ability to communicate effectively.
  • Ability to perform preventive maintenance on aircraft.
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with others.
  • Ability to understand and apply laws, rules, regulations, policies and procedures.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

  • Certification by the Federal Aviation Administration as a Commercial Pilot with an instrument rating for the appropriate aircraft and completion of one thousand hours of flight time.
