CLASS TITLE:SENIOR REGISTERED NURSE - F/C

ALLOCATION FACTOR(S)

This is professional nursing work in the care and treatment of patients or analyzing the total health care utilization of Medicaid recipients and recommending appropriate corrective action for any mis-utilization. The employee(s) in the position(s) allocated to this class must spend a minimum of 75 percent of their time performing duties which involve contact with patients/inmates in a correctional or forensic facility or institution.

  • Initiates patient care plans.
  • Participates in direct patient care.
  • Makes assessment of patients' condition.
  • Takes charge of unit during shift when supervisor is off duty.
  • Plans and coordinates activities performed by practical nurses, student nurses, and other nonprofessional personnel.
  • Makes rounds with physicians and participates in patient care plans.
  • Assists in the orientation and training of new team members.
  • Assists in the development of in-service training programs.
  • Assists in the training and teaching of practicum students, interns, and house staff.
  • Requisitions all medicine and supplies, and maintains appropriate inventory records.
  • Participates in in-service nursing training programs.
  • Prepares and administers medications to patients as ordered by physicians.
  • Serves as a team leader for all patients assigned for an eight-hour shift.
  • Participates in formulating patient care plans.
  • Assists physicians an necessary.
  • Performs analyses and in-depth research of medical service utilization habits of medicaid recipients and recommends appropriate level of case management.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES:

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

  • Licensure as a Registered Professional Nurse in accordance with Florida Statute 464 or eligible to practice nursing in accordance with Florida Administrative Code 210-8.27 and one year of professional nursing experience; or
  • A bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university with a major in nursing and licensure as a Registered Professional Nurse in accordance with Florida Statute 464 or eligible to practice nursing in accordance with Florida Administrative Code 210-8.27.
