CLASS TITLE:SENIOR OPERATING ENGINEER - SES

ALLOCATION FACTOR(S)

This is work operating and performing minor repair of a steam or hot water heating and/or air-conditioning plant on an assigned shift.

EXAMPLES OF WORK PERFORMED:

  • Operates or coordinates the operation of steam or hot water boilers or an air conditioning plant on a shift.
  • Coordinates or performs general preventative maintenance on air conditioning systems, boilers, and related equipment.
  • Keeps operational log up-to-date, noting man-hours worked, pounds of steam generated and amount of down-time.
  • Observes and adjusts control systems, water pumps, regulators, and other equipment pertaining to steam, air conditioning and water lines.
  • Operates a computer controlled monitoring system to ensure effective utilization of equipment.
  • Coordinates the work of client labor groups and community service labor workers.
  • Performs emergency repairs on heating and air conditioning equipment using hand tools and participates in special repair projects such as rebricking, punching, and retubing boilers.
  • Coordinates or performs the test and treatment of water utilized in boiler and air conditioning systems.
  • Makes recommendations concerning boiler operation procedures and policies to ensure maximum efficiency and safety.
  • Performs related work as required.

  • Knowledge of the procedures and methods used in the operation and maintenance of heating and/or air-conditioning equipment.

  • Ability to plan, organize and coordinate work assignments.
  • Ability to communicate effectively.
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with others.
