CLASS TITLE:SCALE TECHNICIAN II

ALLOCATION FACTOR(S)

This is work inspecting, maintaining, repairing and testing the newer, most complex truck weighing scales located throughout the state.

EXAMPLES OF WORK PERFORMED:

  • Makes periodic inspections of and calibrates truck weighing scales, and inspects and replaces or repairs damaged or broken parts.
  • Certifies truck weighing scales for immediate operation and notifies the Department of Agriculture and Consumer Services prior to certification.
  • Inspects construction of new weighing stations and makes recommendations for minor improvements.
  • Assists factory representatives in the installation of new electronic scales and conversion of mechanical beam scales to electro-mechanical scales.
  • Coordinates and directs the work of other employees.
  • Performs related work as required.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES:

  • Knowledge of the basic principles and techniques of electronic, electrical, automotive or machinery repair and maintenance work.
  • Skill in using tools and equipment in electrical, electronic, automotive or machinery repair and maintenance work.
  • Ability to communicate effectively.
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with others.
  • Ability to understand and apply applicable rules, regulations, policies and procedures relating to the repair, maintenance and testing of truck weighing scales.
  • Ability to inspect mechanical related equipment or machinery, identify malfunctions and make repairs.
  • Ability to understand and follow technical instructions relating to the maintenance, repair and testing of truck weighing scales.
  • Ability to work independently.
  • Ability to utilize problem-solving techniques.
  • Ability to plan, organize and coordinate work assignments.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

  • Two years of experience in the repair, maintenance and testing of truck weighing scales; or
  • Three years of experience in electrical, electronic, automotive or mechanical repair and maintenance work.
  • Completion of a program of study in electrical work, electronics, machinery or automotive repair from a vocational/technical school or college can substitute for one year of the required experience in electrical, electronic, automotive or machinery repair and maintenance work.
