This is work involving highly complex scientific research activities in the Department of Citrus.

EXAMPLES OF WORK PERFORMED:

  • Plans, conducts, and/or coordinates chemical research activities related to the harvesting, handling, packaging, processing, and/or development of citrus products.
  • Plans, conducts, and/or coordinates bacteriological experiments relating to problems resulting from the handling and processing of citrus fruits and products.
  • Plans, conducts, and/or coordinates biochemical research of changes occurring in the maturation, handling, processing, and decaying of citrus fruit.
  • Plans, conducts and/or coordinates research programs concerned with applying science to the production, preparation, processing, packaging, and utilization of citrus products.
  • Plans, conducts and/or coordinates studies of life cycles of major post-harvest fruit pathogens to determine the influence of harvesting and handling processes.
  • Plans, conducts, and/or coordinates research designed to better understand the causes and effects of de-greening and coloring processes of citrus fruits in order to enhance the internal and external colors and appearance.
  • Plans, conducts, and/or coordinates research in the development and perfection of new improved citrus harvesting equipment.
  • Consults with growers, harvesting contractors, equipment manufacturers, production managers, chemical manufacturers, and others interested in the use of mechanical harvesting and fruit-handling equipment, abscission chemicals, and pre-harvest fungicides.
  • Performs related work as required.
