  • Conducts the research, topography studies, resource inventories and analyses necessary to prepare comprehensive land use plans.
  • Prepares detailed site plans that determine specific road and parking layouts and locations, facility locations, utility needs and easements, landscape planting plans, boardwalk locations, maintenance and residence structure locations, and entrance layouts.
  • Determines through analyses of resources a proper carrying capacity, concept and theme development, and color scheme for improvements.
  • Participates in the planning, designing and drafting of landscape features.
  • Prepares detailed specifications for types and species of plant material with detailed planting instructions.
  • Prepares maps, sketches, estimates and other details related to landscape design projects.
  • Inspects landscape construction work.
  • Develops site plans to include site selection, conceptual development, and final working drawings.
  • Researches and determines the various types of trees, shrubs and ground covers that are best suited for the area.
  • Designs and develops sprinkler irrigation projects.
  • Designs and develops present and long range landscape plans.
  • Provides technical assistance to project engineers or maintenance personnel on matters relating to landscape.
  • Prepares specifications for landscape design projects.
  • Prepares cost estimates for landscape design projects.
  • Performs related work as required.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES:

  • Knowledge of the principles of land use or site planning or landscape design.
  • Knowledge of hydrology, horticulture, and agronomy.

  • Ability to plan and design landscape features.
  • Ability to plan, direct and coordinate program activities.
  • Ability to conduct routine inspections of landscape construction work.
  • Ability to develop and design long range landscape plans.
  • Ability to understand and apply laws, rules, regulations, policies and procedures.
  • Ability to develop cost estimates.
  • Ability to draft detailed specifications from verbal instructions.
  • Ability to review, analyze and evaluate data.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

  • Registration as a Landscape Architect in accordance with Chapter 481, Florida Statutes.
