CLASS TITLE:HUMAN SERVICES WORKER II - F/C

ALLOCATION FACTOR(S)

This is charge work providing care and instruction for clients in a forensic unit in a mental health facility. The employee(s) in the position(s) allocated to this class must spend a minimum of 75 percent of their time performing duties which involve contact with patients/inmates in a correctional or forensic facility or institution.

EXAMPLES OF WORK PERFORMED:

  • Maintains forensic patient charts, makes out medicine cards and ensures that all orders are maintained and reflected on the records.
  • Assists treatment personnel in carrying out prescribed treatment plans as a member of a rehabilitative treatment team.
  • Performs special procedures such as catheterizations and irrigations.
  • Maintains close medical and clinical observations of forensic patients and reports unusual incidents or changes.
  • Attends group therapy sessions with professional staff and observes forensic patients for changes in behavior.
  • Checks forensic patients in and out of wards.
  • Administers routine medication, bandages, and prescribed treatment under the supervision of a Registered Nurse or Physician.
  • Participates in general housekeeping duties.
  • Performs related work as required.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES:

  • Knowledge of the practices used in the treatment of mental health problems.
  • Ability to assist in carrying out prescribed rehabilitation treatment programs.
  • Ability to administer routine medications and prescribed treatments under supervision.
  • Ability to make observations of clients and to identify changes and unusual occurrences.
  • Ability to maintain charts.
  • Ability to perform basic housekeeping duties.
  • Ability to plan, organize and coordinate work assignments.
  • Ability to communicate effectively.
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with others.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

  • One year of experience in the care of persons with mental health problems.
