Pupil 1. Good afternoon, dear Mummies, teachers and guests! Today is Mothers’ Day. We want to congratulate you on this holiday.

Pupil 2. InGreat Britain there is a holiday called Mothers’ Day. On that day all the members of the family get together and give many presents to their mothers.

Pupil 1. In the old days many girls from the workers’ and farmers’ families worked in rich people’s houses. They had to do all the housework. One day a year, it was usually on Sunday in March, they could visit their mothers.

They went home on that day and brought presents for their mothers and for other members of the family. They could stay at home only one day and people called that day Mothering Sunday.

Pupil 2. Later this day became a holiday. It is usually on Sunday in the middle of March. On that day sons and daughters visit their mothers and bring for them flowers and little presents. The eldest son must bring a good cake.
