CLASS TITLE:HEALTH SUPPORT AIDE - F/C

ALLOCATION FACTOR(S)

This is work in one of the following areas: (1) performing clinical and housekeeping support functions in a clinic; (2) assisting patients with ambulation or personal hygiene or performing light housekeeping functions in a patient's home; (3) conducting public health field surveys; (4) administering preliminary pure tone audiometric and vision tests; or (5) taking vital signs and distributing sterile supplies and equipment. The employee(s) in the position(s) allocated to this class must spend a minimum of 75 percent of their time performing duties which involve contact with patients/inmates in a correctional or forensic facility or institution.

EXAMPLES OF WORK PERFORMED:

  • Helps patient with personal hygiene and performs therapeutic activities.
  • Performs light housekeeping assignments.
  • Purchases food and household supplies and prepares and serves meals.
  • Takes routine care of children during absence or incapacitation of responsible adult.
  • Prepares treatment rooms for use by patients.
  • Cleans and sterilizes equipment and supplies.
  • Records specimens, samples, and food and liquid intake and output; pulls and files records; and posts visits or update charts.
  • Reports bladder and bowel patterns to nurse.
  • Demonstrates correct body alignment for bed patients; changes linen.
  • Meets emotional needs of patients; listens to, anticipates, and grants reasonable requests.
  • Secures information concerning health conditions of the home, transmits memorized program information to families, and attempts to interest families in available community health resources.
  • Explains testing procedures.
  • Contacts schools and arranges for testing days.
  • Posts results of tests on school records.
  • Prepares reports and maintains equipment in operating condition.
  • Admits patients to ward areas.
  • Updates charts and records food and liquid intake and output.
  • Checks patients and provides aid and assistance.
  • Performs related work as required.
