This is highly advanced engineering work performing technical assignments in construction, maintenance, materials and research, design, topographics, estimates, or planning; consulting with and giving technical advice to municipal and other governmental authorities and analyzing and evaluating programs and needs; or performing other comparable office, field, or laboratory work.

EXAMPLES OF WORK PERFORMED:

  • Performs highly technical work in the design of highways, bridges, drainage structures and/or teleprocessing systems.
  • Assists in the preparation of specifications or contracts.
  • Oversees review of plans and specifications for the construction and operation of wastewater systems, public water supply systems, air pollution abatement systems and industrial waste systems.
  • Oversees inspection of wastewater and water treatment plants.
  • Oversees activities related to issuance of septic tank permits.
  • Reviews swimming pool construction designs and performs field inspections for conformance with state requirements.
  • Assists in conducting capital recovery studies of public utility property; assists in determining need for and usefulness of public utility properties; performs more difficult studies of plant properties, inventories, purchasing and construction practices, schedules, and costs; studies cost effectiveness and efficiency of plant operations; performs more difficult appraisals and physical conditions of plant and equipment; assists in establishing approved engineering and safety policies and procedures; serves as advisor or expert witness on certifications, cost of service, and engineering matters.
  • Serves as liaison to consulting engineers and to city, county and other state agencies on problems relating to shoreline stability, design, or erosion improvements.
  • Reviews survey plans submitted with application requests for permits to construct seaward of the coastal construction control line.
  • Oversees construction and recommends final acceptance of projects at state parks.
  • Reviews mechanical plans and specifications for the health facilities constructed under the Hill-Harris Program.
  • Designs specialized engineering, surveying and electronic equipment.
  • Serves as an assistant sanitary engineering director for a moderately complex county program or as a senior county staff member.
  • Designs highly complex research equipment.
  • Advises members of the Florida Educational Television Commission and others on all engineering matters relating to the educational use of television studio and transmission equipment, microwave transmission systems, video tape recording and reproducing equipment, and other electronic devices that have educational applications.
  • Studies scientific and engineering publications in order to stay abreast of new developments.
  • Performs related work as required.
