CLASS TITLE:DIRECTOR, INSTITUTIONAL RESEARCH

BASIC FUNCTION:

Develop and direct comprehensive program of institutional research; provide information on a wide range of issues supporting strategic and long-range planning, policy formulation, decision-making, institutional marketing, assessment and accreditation.

REPRESENTATIVE DUTIES:

  1. Design, develop, implement and evaluate the college’s institutional research, data access, data analysis, data reporting, and policy analysis functions.[E]
  1. Develop and maintain an institutional research program intended to guide strategic planning initiatives, policy formulation, administrative decision-making, marketing, assessment, and accreditation.[E]
  1. Design, organize, and coordinate research studies and projects; compile, analyze and report statistical and demographic data.[E]
  1. Supervise, train and evaluate assigned staff.[E]
  1. Coordinate and direct the assessment program including the administration of student and employee surveys.
  1. Support instructional program planning and review.[E]
  1. Accumulate all institutional published data from throughout the college and provide a single location for dissemination of that data.
  1. Coordinate annual studies such as IPEDS, and ensure timely and consistent reporting, and prepare and transmit appropriate information to external and internal entities.[E]
  1. Promote and support a culture of evidence-based decision making.
  1. Provide support and coordination for district planning processes by collecting, reporting, and utilizing data, and providing recommendations.[E]
  1. Coordinate the activities of the Long Range Planning Committee.[E]
  1. Perform other duties as assigned.

KNOWLEDGE AND ABILITIES:

KNOWLEDGE OF:

Research methods.

Survey design and analysis.

Principles and practices of supervision and training.

District organization, operations, policies and objectives.

Modern office practices, procedures and equipment.

Computer applications including statistical analysis packages such as SAS or SPSS.

California State Education Code and other applicable laws.

Oral and written communication skills including correct English usage, grammar, spelling, punctuation and vocabulary.

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:

Education and experienceequivalent to a Master’s degree. Three to five years experience in institutional research including data management.

WORK DIRECTION, LEAD AND SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES:

Research analyst, clerical support and student workers as needed.

CONTACTS:

Administrators, faculty, staff and members of the community.

PHYSICAL EFFORT:

Primarily sedentary with intermittent standing, walking, bending and stooping; occasional light lifting and carrying of objects weighing 25 pounds or less; ability to travel to a variety of locations on and off campus as needed to conduct district business.

EMOTIONAL EFFORT:

Ability to develop and maintain effective working relationships involving interactions and communications personally, by phone and in writing with a variety of individuals and/or groups of individuals from diverse backgrounds on a regular, on-going basis; ability to work effectively under pressure on a variety of tasks concurrently while meeting established deadlines.

WORKING CONDITIONS:

Primarily business office environment; subject to frequent public contact and interruption; occasional exposure to angry, disgruntled and abusive individuals; usual assignment worked during daylight hours with occasional evening, weekend and/or holiday hours required on an as-needed basis.
