CLASS TITLE:DEVELOPMENT REPRESENTATIVE II

This is work planning and promoting tourism or business development involving complex capital investments or budget expenditures.

  • Recommends courses of action which would result in improved community resources for the purpose of industrial or tourism development.
  • Works independently or as a team member with business prospects in an effort to locate them in Florida.
  • Works directly with existing Florida firms to provide technical assistance and encourage their expansion.
  • Conducts community evaluation trips with industrial, business, and tourism industry prospects.
  • Maintains a close working relationship with planning and development officials of leading national corporations which might have an interest in a Florida location.
  • Encourages foreign businesses and travel industry executives to investigate Florida locations.
  • Encourages and provides technical assistance to Florida businesses in developing foreign markets.
  • Commits monies appropriated for industry training funds.
  • Manages a multi-professional Florida field office.
  • Prepares and delivers speeches and addresses to various groups on a variety of subjects relating to economic tourism or business development.
  • Recommends potential locations for large companies based on economic, tourism, and business development information regarding local and regional characteristics.
  • Plans and directs trade shows, conventions, expositions, and industrial expansion solicitation trips for the ultimate purpose of trade expansion, prospect development, or to facilitate sales between providers and buyers.
  • Performs related work as required.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

  • A bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university with major course of study in marketing, business, merchandising, economics, agriculture, international affairs, leisure services, or communications and three years of professional experience in marketing, advertising, public relations, agriculture, international affairs, leisure services, business or industry development, the travel industry or in hotel or restaurant management; or
  • Completion of the Development Representative Trainee Program and one year of professional experience as described above; or
  • A master's degree from an accredited college or university with major course of study in business administration and two years of professional experience as described above.
  • Professional or paraprofessional experience as described above can substitute on a year-for-year basis for the required college education.
